ParticipantMy normal supplier is out of stock 🙁 hotpoint want £17 for three! what with the cost of replacing the 30mm rear tub with a 35mm new one and the spider, its so expensive.
Correct me if i am wrong, but Hotpoint no longer produce the WMA 30mm spider or bearing seals.
I normally buy a pack of about 30, trust me to run out when i cant get them anywhere!!
Has anyone had much sucsess in reusing them, i normally grind off the old ones as they are so brittle.
The reason the customer called an independant as opposed to Hotpoint is because they wanted the repair completed quickly – doh!

I’ve sometimes used Zanussi ones. No, I don’t think you can buy the 30mm spider but they are usually OK for re-use. The 30mm Bearings with seal are Part No. 1604600. You can also get Part No. 1604770 which is the 35mm spider, bearings and screws.

82p + vat each @ Qualtex…. 😕 In stock as well. They also do a pattern spider bolt kit (3 bolts), but I can’t find it at the moment.

Fantastic, thanks for the help.
I have often thought about re using the spider, especially if the bearings havent broken and there are no visable signs of wear where the seal rests. Have always replaced the spider, seems too big a job not to!

Done two WMA rear halves in the last two days, reused the old spider on both occasions. I always go armed with a spider just in case but I would guess that 65{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of the time, if it is an original 35mm bearing setup then I don’t use the spider, 30mm bearings are a different matter altogether. 😥
It really depends how long the customer has left it before calling you out.
I have, as yet 😉 never had a recall to any WMA drum rear half only repair for subsequent bearing failure in the past six years. 8)

The seal does not run on the spider so damage on the shaft surface will not rip up the new seal. Part of the seal turns with the shaft, the other part stays still with the tub.

Heck. I didn’t know that! The one I did a couple of weeks ago I replaced the pitted spider at great expense to my resources of energy and greased the new seal where it fits over the shaft! I suppose I should have debored it to the shaft. 😕

I always give the screws a good wack on the head with a punch (Amir Khan fashion 😆 ) The punch needs to be a similar diameter to the head.
This usualy breaks the seal and the screw comes out really easily, it is very rare that I have to renew the screws.
If you are still needing some screws I have a few spares.
🙂
