ParticipantSold about 12 Whirlpool Washing Machines AWOD5506 Between 10and20 months ago,
I have had three breakdown calls in last month on those machine,
All with the same fault= Machine dead caused by faulty circuit board,
the price of the part is about £145, it was aprox £199
The first one to go down was 3 weeks out of guarantee so I let him have a machine at cust, the next two I had seen on uk whitegoods how to fit resister to Board,
I wander how many boards were replaced under guarantee,
1)Was this a Faulty batch
2)would Whirlpool inform the the trade
If it wasnt for the information on how the repair the boards I would be giving refunds to some of my more demanding customersJuly 19, 2009 at 4:18 pm #292623Phidom

If customers ask me about Whirlpool washing machines I advise them against buying one. I don’t think they are generally bad machines but the spares are so expensive that they are often not worth repairing.

Theres a thread somewhere about a resistor on the timer going down cheap and easy to replace, failing that wasnt there somebody with 50 w/pools with sealed tubs all with the bearings gone-must be a few good timers there.

The last two I fitted resisters,
I wander how many Engineers are fitting Modules or writing machine off.July 22, 2009 at 6:08 pm #292626boselecta
ParticipantPlease tell me about fitting resistors to the module. Went to see a AWOD4505 the other day where none of the facia pcb LED’s would illuminate. Put it down to PCB fault which made the machine BER ,not aware of resisitor fix.?

Hi folks, Its just a 22 ohm 2 watt wirewound resistor that is required.
This Thread should help 😀July 22, 2009 at 9:24 pm #292628boselecta
Participantthanks martin,
very interesting I am replacing this machine with a WMA/WF machine on friday so will take a closer look at the module after then.July 27, 2009 at 5:28 pm #292629boselecta
ParticipantBrilliant, She is working now!
It was that 22ohm resistor that was open circuit, went to my local Maplins over the weekend, the resistor cost 34p, a bit better than getting the new module at £150!
Thanks Martin this one was heading for the scrap heap before I read this post!

Participanthi guys just read all your posts re w/pools.
i have a problem with eg: a awo/d4505.
prog fault , i think? . i switch m/c on,select spin or any programmes,and the damb m/c ,
throws up the service neon!!indicator ??
the door lock ok!, pump, ok!, checked motor, ok.
can it be the resistor!!?,
a reply would be much appreciated.

Participanthi jasper,
Dont think it will be this resistor as this causes none of the led’s to illuminate ie dead.
Thats not to say it couldnt be another board problem. -
