ParticipantHi!
(I did a search and couldn’t spot anything – apologies if I’ve missed the obvious)Our Hoover Comfort Dishwasher HD 96M has suddenly stopped working. It was fine the day before. It won’t take water in.
Yesterday, I rattled it up and down on the floor a couple of times (not excessively 😀 ) and when I tested it, it worked and did everything it was supposed to.
We therefore loaded it up and left it to start on cheap rate electricity. When we came to it this morning it was back to exhibiting the same problem.
With thanks,

I can only assume that there is a problem with the water level control system. There is a pneumatic shut off on the fill valve, which is the overfill protection set up. Given that you moved it and it worked and now it doesn’t again, this would make sense. When it doesn’t fill, can you hear a faint humming noise? The valve is still activated (the hum), but the safety system may hold the valve shut mechanically.
Power off, tip the machine back and clean all accessible pipework is probably the starting point – water in any of the skinny tubes leading to the pressure switch and inlet valve is a bad thing.

Thanks for your reply, appreciated. 🙂
Before reading it, I stripped the inlet valve assembly out. Not much to take apart, other than a section with a diapragm connected to a small tube. I now assume from what you say, this is overfill related. I took this apart, checked it was clear and reassembled.
The machine is working again….. Of course this could be because it’s been on its side……
Should I just see what it does next?
Yes, it was humming when it wasn’t filling.

I tested it on cold rinse – successfully.
I’ve let it run through a full cycle – with Oust dishwasher cleaner – successful.
Now, it won’t do a cold rinse again. (or fill) 😥

Should I look to the level switch next?July 22, 2009 at 11:06 pm #292740Penguin45

Yes. The valve shuts of pneumatically if the machine over-fills. Your posts above would suggest that the pressure switch/water level system is not working correctly.
