I notice in the new ARGOS book their are some new manufactures of fridges/freezers or should that be new badges?

    They are,

ARGOS value range (last year they were called Coolzone)

A prize of an old kipper to the first person to identify the real makers.

China. The rest doesn’t matter. Please forward 4 cans of Old Speckled Hen via the Kilmarnock adress.

    Chinese.

Don’t need to know anymore than that. 😉

Let me put it this way…

Refrigeration relies on four basic things.

A good compressor as that does all the work and runs 50{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d}+ of the time it’s plugged in on non-frost free, 75{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d}+ on frost free

Decent control system, thermostats or thermistors and electronics

    Decent cabinet insulation

Decent door hinges and fittings so it actually seals

A good Danfoss compressor will, generally, cost more than most of these fridges and freezers retail for.

A good thermostat will cost you at least £10.

A decent hinge, especially a sprung one for the like of an integrated unit, will set you back about £15 each hinge.

When you work out what’s left to spend on the plastics and cabinet I’d bet it isn’t much, even ignoring buying a decent compressor. Unless of course you don’t buy decent components to build it with in the first place and use any old rubbish.

Like much of the **** out there in refrigeration (as well as other appliances) it’ll be landfill in 24 months most likely. If not, you’re one of the lucky ones.

    Re: New makers!!!!!

Actually, don’t send them via the Kilmarnock address – kwatt’ll get them first……. 😆

The current generation of Chinese manufacturers do not innovate or invent. They copy. They may buy redundant production lines, complete with intellectual copyright, they may just steal the designs as Chinese law does not recognise copyright at all. Either way, the results are poor due to their manufacturing processes.

They are actually perfectly capable of making to any standard you wish, but as usual, the big boys buyers just specify “cheap” and that’s exactly what you get.
