Just noticed in the new ARGOS book that some washers & dishwashers have had their name changed.
HEC have now become HAUS
Haier have now become BUSH
Apart from the name change they are identical. (Chinese junk??)

Many manufacturers and retailers do this on occasion to pull the wool over people’s eyes.
Sadly, a lot of people stupidly fall for it as it’s a… “bargain”!
Then expect it to last the same as a £500+ proper appliance.

Im currently lol-ing at new baumatic integrated washers being haiers + a £80 extra hike trade for the priveledge of being “baumatic branded”…

Yes I saw those machines in the lastest Argos catalogue and wondered how can they do a machine for so little? I think they were £160 so by the time Argos have taken their cut I expect they buy them in for about £120? Maybe less?
I have no idea how a manufacturer can make a machine for so little.

Work it back.
Take the £160 SRP.

Remove percentage for service, usually 5-10{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of cost.
Remove shipping from factory to port, generally about £20 per box.
Remove internal UK distribution, generally about £20-40 per box.
Remove any final delivery costs to home if there’s free delivery, pricey if you need it as that’s gonna be £30-50.
You’ll quickly realise that many of these bargain appliances have an actual gate price of well under £100. What do you expect for £60 or less?
The thing is that a lot of those costs are fixed so, as you buy a better appliance it’s not that the retailers or manufacturers are making much more in terms of margin it’s just that the actual box is costing more to produce.
There’s a “rumour” in the industry that certain Chinese integrated dishwashers have a landed cost of $50 including import duty but excluding shipping. £37 for an integrated dishwasher. By the time you add all the costs and they factor in the high repair/exchange rates you end up with an SRP of about £200.
People buy them as the closest competitor is double that price but, IMO, more than double the quality.
It’s a sad as most of them last 18 months at best and then you have to rip the kitchen apart to replace it but hey, it’s a bargain.

18 months? How many repairs in that time? How many days off work do people have waiting in? we have no tech info no spares because got to come from china etc? so usually 2visits at least. Never known one last 18 months 18 hours would push it and i have known a lot fail well within 18 hours! by the time you add it all up the time off the inconvenience and hassle your better off just buying something decent to start with you would actually save money get a better product and it would last at least four times longer now thats what i call a bargin!
Same with everything else in life you get what you pay for. As my dad always says there is nothing so expensive as rubbish.Phil

It’s the inconvenience and time off work that really costs, plus of course the environmental impact when it’s scrapped at 12 months.
I like quality and am prepared to pay for it .Peace of mind etc. I would soooooo love an ISE10 but will have to wait for the Bosch to pack up first. Seems to defeat the point getting rid of it until it breaks.I wish I had known about this site years ago.
