Can anyone please help with the problem we are having with our washing machine? It started a few weeks ago when a normal 40 degree cycle finished with wet and warm clothes. The water was dirty indicating that it hadn’t gone through rinse and spin. The spin only cycle did work if I put in a half load at a time. It then righted itself for 3-4 washes but then reverted to the same problem.

Now when the machine is switched on, no matter what cycle is selected, no water comes in and the drum just turns back and forth and clicking sounds as if washing but doesn’t do anything more. I put the machine on a “quick wash” last night and manually put water and detergent into the dispenser but it was still doing this same repetitive movement an hour later plus quite a bit of water leaked out underneath but that could have been caused by me putting too much in too quickly. It’s as if the machine is stuck and needs to be reset.

I removed the mains plug overnight and have just attempted a spin only, but the same thing is happening.

Originally thought it could be the cold water inlet valve as no water was entering the machine but would a faulty valve cause the above and prevent a spin cycle from working?

We have checked all hoses, pipes and pump for blockages and have tested the pressure switch – all OK.

Is there a way of resetting the machine and, if so, would this work? If not I think it’s time to get a professional in as husband and I have pretty limited knowlege and experience! Thank you.

I think you’re right – We have now admitted defeat and bought a new machine. Thanks.
