I would appreciate any pointers. I have spare drum spider, that have the new bearings pressed in. Are there any problems i’m likely to encounter in taking the other drum spider off. Any help gratefully received. 😕
I assume you mean the bearing cross that bolts onto the back of the tub? If so, the worst bit is removing the centre torx screw in the pulley. This is very tight and fixed with Loctite. You will need either an impact driver and suitable torx bit or give the screw a sharp tap with a big drift and a lump hammer. Apart from that the job is quite easy but make sure you refit the cross the right way round as there is usually a small metal wedge at the end of one of the arms.
Took longer than i imagined, because the inner bearing had collapsed and the race was left on the drum shaft. Managed to get that off, then it was fairly plain sailing.
Thanks again.
