Which supplier? If it is one you could manage without I suggest you pay for any goods you have ordered and received and then consider the account closed. Alternatively you could ask to speak to the Managing Director about it.
Years ago I fell out with Wallaces of Edinburgh over a special order for 2 knobs, both for the same appliance. They sent me one grey knob and one brown. The customer would not accept the wrong colour one so I sent it back. Wallaces insisted it could not be returned and kept billing me for it. I never paid for the knob and never gave them another order.August 3, 2009 at 3:46 pm #293738Martin

Ditto Phidom’s comments plus, if it’s your main supplier and an error has been made (the assumption being on you of course). Then at some point I’m sure you can work out some kind of deal with them to compensate for the error. They may waiver the handling charges involved in returning the part if its a costly item? May give you a better quantity discount on your regular order lines? …and so on.
However if it’s a supplier you don’t often trade with (and it’s happened to me more than once over the years) just pay them and walk away never to return……

If they claim you ordered it online let them prove it. On their website you can display copy invoices. Backorder items should appear on the invoice from when the order was placed as well as the invoice when they were sent. If the special order item was ordered on it’s own it should appear on the list with a value of £0.00 beside it. You need to do a bit of detective work then write a letter stating the facts. Orders over £75 placed online should be free delivery so it sounds like they are saying you ordered it by phone. If so, my guess is that another customer ordered it by phone but the sales person took their account number down wrongly and entered your number.

I used to compile draft orders for the purpose of keeping a list of frequently required spares. Then one day an order of over £200 I hadn’t sent arrived. It seems that it’s a no-no to use the back button on your browser when you’re compiling an order as this can cause the order to be sent, or so I was told at the time. Ended up managing to get them to take about 80{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of it back but it was a load of work and took a couple of months!
