My wife used to work for Prestcold @ Theale (Nr Reading) and the 302 was on sale between 1960 and 1963. Production of all fridges stopped in 1966 I believe.

Good grief Martin that makes the old bird at least 43 years old and apart from the ice box flap being broken it still works 😀 a shame they don`t make them like that anymore.

There are a few still about in my neck of the woods. The white ones are fairly rare beasts as the most popular colour in those days was cream. One customer of mine in Mortimer (3 miles away) has the bigger version of the 302 (can’t recall the model of it though?).
She has it in her kitchen next to the oil fired Aga and it is immaculate and everything works (including the evaporator door). The light bulb was changed under guarantee and the replacement has worked every since….. 😯

Great brand,
when I got married,, we were given a 12 yr old Prestcold fridge and had it for another 10 when the ex said lets’s get a new one so we got Electrolux and gave the old one away and ar as I know it lasted another 8 yrs.
Pity electrolux and the rest don’t get one and re-introduce exactly as this is made and introduce some quality into their products.(but they wouldn’t want that, would they?)

There must have been more job satisfaction back in those days, working on good quality appliances. I can’t remember what make it was but we had a gas fridge my parents bought in the late ’50s. That lasted at least 20 years before it sprang a leak and tainted all the food with ammonia or sumsuch. The old Kerstar vacuum cleaner also went on for donkeys years before the bearings finally collapsed. On the other hand, the Frigidaire twintub was a load of rubbish.
