Thinking of getting another van, as my trusty Transporter is starting to cost me money, i have asked a couple of mechanic friends and they all seem to prefer differant makes, its a toss up between a Transit, Vivaro, Transporter or a Expert/scudo/dispatch, anaybody have any of these? how do you find them? i would be intrested to hear Jj

i have owned 2 T4’s and i just picked up a T5 last week, i looked at the competiton for me nothing compared to the Transporter , not cheap but then you get what you pay for.
The first T4 is now 14 yrs old my father had it from me and turned it into a mini camper van, still going strong!
Had a new peugeot expert van had it 2 weeks returned it.
Even though I paid a deposit for half of the van and the remainder on finance 2 weeks intio it finance company decides that I should have the van on finance through a main dealer cock up.Returned the van as a blessing as it was costing me £80 to fill up and only getting 600 miles to a tank.
Compared to combo £50 doing 500 miles.

have to agree with deltra,vito without doubt,i am now onto 185000mls still drives like a dream 8)
Just got a 2005 Peugeot Expert, very impressed much more economic than my pervious 1993 Nissan Vanetta Cargo.
Choice was quite limited as had to have a van with double sliding doors.

Peugot Expert with the HDi engine gives 700 plus miles for £84,driven in the countryside with my right foot a little more gentle as I get older.
Plus it’s pretty well loaded to capacity and has given very little trouble,plus with the son in law running a garage the bills are suprisingly low for service. 😀Re: New Van
I’ll have to make up my mind quick, something major is brewing engine wise i’m off on holiday ina week so looking to struggle along and have a new one lined up when i get back, JJ

ahhh the word scudo makes me spit lol very expensive to repair
clutch was £490 exhorst was £500 indicater relay was £61 please dont buy one lol , but was a good van to say the least 🙂phil

Mercedes Vito…..great van, double side load doors and even the short wheelbase version will take a 8′ X 4′ panel of wood / plasterboard with ease. One downside – eats the edges off the front tyres!! 21,000 miles and I’ve just had the third pair fitted. Tracked up each time; makes no difference, still the outer edge wears off. 👿
On the subject of the Fiat Scudo; they are a very good van for this trade. I had 2 Citroen Dispatch versions and they were both very reliable. Unfortunately, the motor trade tend to prefer the Peugeot Expert version then the Citroen Dispatch and the Fiat Scudo is sadly the fastest to depreciate. Ridiculous as they are the same van. Many contract hire companies will not supply a Scudo due to the high depreciation after the 3 year lease is up. Strange but true; but something to consider. 😉
