Hi People. I have just come accross a Zanussi ZWF 1421w, which I unfortunately sold to a customer 23 months ago. These people are good customers and I would like to help them out. The bearings have started to go after 23 months, which doesnt look good, as I reccomended the machine. The drums on this model are the moulded type and therefore I was under the impression that the bearing unit could not be changed. Having said that, I spoke to another engineer today who said that if you split the plastics moulding, it is possible to split the drum to replace the bearings and then re-seal it with the screw holes, as with the earlier models. I would appreciate it if anyone could confirm or deny this for me, Im not sure whether he was BS ing me. Any advice would be gratefully received as always. Also if a complete drum unit is required, if someone could supply me with the relevant part number, that would be very useful as connections is just showing it as obsolete as far as I can tell. Not what Im used to from Zanussi I have to say, a little dissapointed with that.
Thanks for any help you can give.

If you sell new appliances perhaps you need to lift the lids and check what you are selling. It would certainly be useful if someone was to start a thread listing models with proper tubs that can be split.

Sorry, sometimes we make mistakes and we sell what has previously been a good machine. I dont lift the lids off every machine I buy and for your information, the ZWF1421 previously had the split drum, which zanussi had used for some years. Like you phildom, we strive for perfection, but sometimes we get it wrong. Must try harder next time..

Thanks Chris211 for your reply. It was atleast useful. I cant believe the drum assemblies are that much though. !!! Wont be selling anymore of those.

Sorry if it sounded like I was being critical as that was not my intention. I was merely making an observation that these days you can’t trust the previously reputable makes so it is worth keeping an eye on new products re. construction, quality etc. I got it wrong myself when my mother got her first automatic, after sticking with twintubs longer than most. I suggested she get a Hoover, the model she bought was a Quattro. This was nothing like the earlier Hoover machines I had in mind when making the recommendation and did not prove to be reliable or durable.

Apologies also Phidom, if my reply sounded a little snappy 😆 . Your first reply did sound rather critical and that is not what I’m used to from this forum. Having said that, your explanation has clarified the point and I also take your point that we need to be more vigilant on the so-called reliable brands.. Certainly if this is the way forward wiith Zanussi/Electrolux group, then I will be looking elsewhere for reliable recomendations. Regards. Andystu
