ParticipantHi
The top plastic control panel has become loose (hit or something’s broke inside?) so that now it comes away a bit as you try and open the machine. What’s the best way to get to this?
Remove the metal panel on the inside of the door by removing all the tork(?) screws? Is this fault symptomatic of something common?

Hello Wibbly,
No this is not common, are all the torx screws held firm?, if not then it suggests one or more of the screw retaining holes on the control panel are damaged.Anyhow, from your explanation the panel seems to be damaged from whatever cause and a new one required.
We can never know an individuals DIY ability but a new panel is available so try the parts & help desk on this site and yes the torx screws holding the panel are the ones to remove.
Whatever you do unplug appliance before proceeding with any investigation or repair.

The torx screws seem tight yes.
– Do you happen to know if the panel is only available complete with all the electronics (expensive) or just the plastic part that I’ll presumably find broken?
– The question about the the screws is that they appear to secure the metal cover over the whole of the inside of the door, whereas the control panel is just at the top of the door (on the outside of course). I guess removing the the whole panel on the inside is the correct (an only) way in to get at the panel?

You can find the part numbers and exploded diagrams over on http://www.bshappliancecare.com. You will need the full eNr number to make it work properly though – that’s the GB/– bit on the end of the model number.
