Hi, yesterday when I started a cycle on my Hotpoint WD72 washerdryer, there was a bright flash from behind the control buttons, and now it just keeps saying ‘Close door’ when the door is closed. So I opened it up, removed the top-front cover, to reveal the forward-facing circuit board. On the left of the circuit board is a vertical row of 5 or 6 black capacitors. The bottom one is blown (split open completely) with a corresponding burn mark on the inside of the front cover.

So, where can I get a new capacitor for this (I’ll be able to solder it in), or alternatively, where can I get a new circuit board?

    Many thanks,
    Leon

Board may be severely damaged, a faulty doorlock is the likely culprit. Sounds as though it has blown a triac not a capacitor.

Part number of board is 1603282, well over £100, you will also need a new doorlock at the very least.

Thanks for the info, mate. Could you tell me, I have a mate who has a WD71 he’s not using anymore and he’s willing to post me the PCB and door lock from that — are those the same between the WD71 and WD72? I really hope so — it’ll save me so much money!

Main power module for WD71 is a different part number but may fit. I would get all the boards from his machine, power board, console board and also the flexible plastic facia panel circuit ( this flexible circuit is now obsolete should should be worth saving).

I would strongly advise getting a new door lock though, not that expensive, part number 1602390.

You need to examine both boards to see if all the contacts and wiring plugs match up before swapping them. If they do then it should be OK. If the contacts or wiring do not match then I would not advise it. Of course you could replace the complete wiring harness from the WD71 as well. 😉

    Last request (I hope!!):

WD72 control circuit board module: Can you provide the part number pls?
WD72 power module: part 1603282 is this correct?
WD72 door lock: part 1602390 is this correct?

When you remove the topfront cover to reveal a circuit board (the board is attached to the machine facing forward, not to the cover), is that the control module or the power module (I think it’s the control module, right, as that is the one that’s blown on mine).

    Thank you so much!!

Control board is the long one behind the facia, part number is 1604282 and the one for the WD71 is the same part. 🙂

If that is blown then there is a good chance the square, power module which is inside the machine will be OK.

    Other part numbers are correct.

I didn’t read your first post carefully enough, missed the bit about it being the front board. 😳

    Jim.
