ParticipantHi guys,
Hope someone may be able to help.
Our dishwasher (Smeg DWD1SSE, type 11045, Serial no. 0426413233) has been playing up. This is the machine with the rotary program selector and the 2 x 7 segment display. When I start the machine it will drain, fill and run for a while (all as normal). The machine just then stops dead and the display just shows the program number as if it had never been started. I can then re-start the machine and it will behave in exactly the same way (from the start of the program) stopping after about 15 or so minutes.
From reading these forums I’ve now replaced the mains suppressor and the dispenser but this has made no difference.
I suspect the computer may be getting interference. Is it worth trying to add a small suppression capacitor or VDR type device directly to the dispenser solenoid or am I just going to have to get a new computer board and keep my fingers crossed?
This is a nice looking machine (stainless steel) and I’d rather not scrap it if at all possible.
Any ideas would be much appreciated.
Thanks

Hi again,
The plot thickens!
Having tried the new dispenser and mains cap with no joy I thought I’d try a few things. The machine will complete the quick rinse cycle with no problem. I tried running the machine with the dispenser solenoid disconnected but as soon as it tries to start the drain pump gives a quick “cough” and the machine resets itself as before.
I’ve put the solenoid back in circuit and watched it running with the door cover off. The drain pump will run as normal but I’ve noticed that while the pump is running the solenoid seems to have a very slight pull on it as though the drain pump (or something related) is running in series with it causing a slight current flow through.
The solenoid pulls in fully at the appropriate moment and then releases a few minutes later (I thought this release may have been the source of a back EMF causing the processor to reset but the machine carries on beyond this point for about 5 minutes).
Should the drain pump be relying on the solenoid coil for operation or am I shedding light on a non-existant problem?
I’ve requested a cost for a replacement computer module but I expect it’s not going to be cheap.
Any help or pointers would be appreciated. I’m thinking I may have to go down the “call an engineer out” route so can anyone recommend a good one in the Falkirk or Bathgate area.
Thanks

I suspect that you may be too late – the pcb may already be corrupted.
Rinse cycle has no heat, so possibly something going on with the heater itself; they can leak to earth, causing interference.
Sorry, no straightforward answer to this one. As a professional repairer, I carry the basics for most SMEG dishwashers on the van, so even allowing for test meter results I can substitute parts to “prove” a diagnosis. This is an expensive option for the private repairer.
