My current machine that was in the house when I moved in has just about given up, so it’s shopping time. 🙁
Originally thought I wanted a silver one (to be honest thats as far as my washing machine knowledge goes) 😳 but after a work around the big retailers to get an idea I think it might have to be white.
As far as tech spec goes I haven’t really got much of a clue but the other half says it must have a biggish load and a quick wash.
Having a pull of a few doors the Panasonic units look very nice but are they any good? At £450 they are at the top of my budget but they actually look like someone has thought about the design, I liked the look of the ‘moon’ thing which is probably a pants unit but was disapPointed by the general plastic-ness of the whole thing.
Oh and the door must have a button release and not one you just yank open as to me thats a callout waiting to happen…. :rolls:

Re: Recommend me a new washing machine

For your budget it has to be mid range Bosch or THIS ONE

Push button is no more reliable than one with a handle on the door, perhaps even less reliable, its all down to quality of materials used. As the Bosch has a two year warranty and the ISE has a five year one within your budget, either of those would be a far better option than a Panasonic. As for the Moon, just type Indesit in the search facility and prepare to be overwhelmed. 😉

Bigger load machines over 6kg are not a good idea and over using the quick wash option on any machine will lead to long term problems such as black marks on door seals, rotted drum supports, nasty smells etc.

    Big loads

    Jim.

I like the thinking behind the ISE, might try and get a look at one of those.
Not sure I was very clear when I said ‘button’ I just mean some sort of mechanical latch on the door, on a lot of units you just appeared to yank the door open with brute force and it looked like an obvious fail point in a years time. 😉

Ah, the general public and washing machines on display. :rolls:

Virtually all machines that you are ‘yanking’ open actually have a handle to depress the latch mechanism inside the door trim.

Many years ago, Hotpoint had a machine, the 1850 that had a push button door release, at first it had a metal hinge cover but on later machines this was replaced with a plastic one. The great British public thought that the hinge cover was the door handle and proceeded to rip the hinge covers off display machines in large numbers. So much so that labels had to be stuck on the machines and the hinge cover remoulded to try and stop people getting their fingers behind them.

If they did have a latch it was very well hidden. 😳
The ISE is growing on me rapidly though, I like their principles on the website, I haven’t read anything bad about them yet and I especially like the fact the nearest dealer is on my local highstreet about a mile away and I love the fact they have nothing to do with the big retail park players. 😀
Just need to go and have a look at one in the flesh and get over my attraction to the Panasonic design. 😳

Well I’m going off the Panny, but the ISE seems a little hard to track down, local dealer wasn’t exactly the last word in helpfull, could get one special order but only if I’m buying it which is a none starter I’m not buying anything I haven’t seen in the flesh, will try and see if I can find one within a reasonable drive but failing that Bosch are looking good. 😕

    Hi raceboy

Did you check out the where to buy on the ISE website? If you did and had no luck then probably a phone call ISE direct on 0845 226 1268. The machines and the principles are well worth pursuing.

Yeah, I looked at the list and one of the dealers was about a mile away, unfortunatly he didn’t have the model I was interested in in stock, he didn’t even know it existed actually and could only get a price and lead time after phoning the supplier.
Theres 2 more that are visit-able so they are getting a call tomorrow, but if I can’t get to see one I might have to go with the current favourite a Bosch. 8)

Re: Recommend me a new washing machine

Well after weighing up the pros and cons I was all set to put my money in to the local economy and buy an ISE but then my trusty old nail of a machine sprang back into life and did a whole weekends washing perfectly. :rolls:
When it does fail, and it will, I’m going ISE, the retailer is a few miles away, the installer appears to live at the end of my street so any problems I’ve got a door to knock on. 😉
