smelly boschs – can it be affected by water supply?

yes i know their plastic is like a mildew magnet, but answer this

6 year old washer, lived in an area we never get smelly bosch calls from, and has never had a problem.it moved home to a road that we get several calls a year from customers with smelly boschs.

within 4 months its smelling musty. no matter how many hot washes/maitenance powder washes/soda crystal washes and calgon cycle on the customers insistance, etc take place its still the same problem. even with dispenser unit stripped and toothbrushed, including displenser hose. smell doesnt really go and returns with avengeance about 2wks later

nothing else is faulty – pumps fine etc…

is it really just the water supply? i cant work out anything else that it could be?

It can’t be anything bar what’s put in it.

There is no other explanation. Article here

Re: just a query – smelly boschs

I work on Bosch and have encountered this problem many times.
I bet you the customer is using a liquid detergent!
I cannot pin down any particular brand as I once had someone using sommerfields own brand which left her machine smelling..perfumed!
Also I`ve had machines smelling VERY `drainy` who have been using gel tabs. NEVER encountered a powder user with a smelly machine!
Hope this has been of use to you and would welcome any further comments on this to confirm my suspicions that liquid is the cause of most `eggy` and `drainy` smells.
p.s. a change over to powder usually gets rid of smells after two to three weeks so feedback tells me.

    kwatt is spot on

smells are introduced, they arent built that way, nor do they have a fault

Re: just a query – smelly boschs

I have a Bosch WFF2000 about 12-15 years old or so. It does not smell. I bought it reconditioned and it was scummed up and hummed to high heaven but maintainance washes with Ariel Biological powder and Affresh has solved the problem for good. I always use Ariel powder and the smell has NEVER returned. But I do not wash at low temperatures, always 60 degrees (cotton 60 and cotton economy 60) also with short wash and higher water level selected, and get excellent results.
