ParticipantMy Hotpoint 7822 washes ok but takes an absolute age to get through a cycle. Hoses and filters have been checked for blockages but none found. Machine sometimes gurgles and sounds as though it has severe indigestion. To speed things up we advance the timer control manually a notch or two every half an hour or so.
Does it sound as though the timer is at fault? A new timer costs about £100 and hardly worth it for a 16 yr old machine. Is there anywhere we can get a second hand timer in the same way that you can buy second hand car parts from a scrapyard?

Bosch based machine, two different timers both under £60.00 ex vat list price.
If you set the machine to a prewash or rinse only programme does it complete the cycle?
Broken wiring inside the door near the lower left hand door hinge is quite common on these machines. Can lead to no heat or other faults that will stop the timer. Be sure to remove the mains plug if you intend to have a look. 😉
Second hand is a very unlikely option, just not the huge numbers of dishwashers about at the time this one was made.

Jim, thanks for your reply.
I tried the prewash and rinses cycles and each took about 4 to 5 hours to complete. Heater seems to be heating ok but staying on for too long?
Does it sound like a timer problem?

Apart from a possible syphoning problem due to dodgy plumbing if it takes that long on a rinse or prewash it may be the timer but when the timer is faulty it normally sticks completely on that model.
Does it appear to fill at a decent rate, how is the drain outlet pipe routed?

Thanks for your help Jim.
I checked the supply hose and found it had a kink in it so will try machine with a new hose next week. Outlet hose is connected directly to a hose spigot branch that is attached to the U bend of the kitchen sink. I will try the machine with the hose temporarily hooked over the side of the sink to see if back-siphonage was the problem.
Thanks again, John

That could well be the problem, is the machnie plumbed into hot or cold fill?

Hi Jim
Hose is connected to a hot supply as we were told the wash cycle would be quicker as we have a plentiful supply of hot water. But I suppose the hot water makes the hose more pliable and liable to kinking.

Correct. 🙂
Its generally recommended to plumb them into cold, the detergents work better and the water pressure is usually better.
