    Hi,

I’m looking for some advice on my Samsung Fridge Freezer RS21NCNS, It’s one of the american side by side ones, without the front water dispenser.

Last Monday i noticed none of my food was cold, and the front panel had a temperture of 15 on it, while the freezer seemed to be getting colder, i had it set on -17, but it was upto -20 at that point.

I read up on a few websites/forums that i needed to take off the panel back panel as the cavity was probably full of ice, but when i took it off, there was not a bit of ice there, but bearing in mind I had actually turned the fridge off the day before at the plug, so i suppose it could have de-frosted.

My OH thought the fan had stopped working and took it to work to test it, he could only test it with a 12v thingy, and it turned very very slowly, but since we have put it back together we can’t here it turning, should we? Also no cold air is blowing out of the vents?

Also this weekend the temperture on the front panel is varing from 5 – 20, but the fridge does not get any colder?

I am one month out of the extended warranty with Samsung, and really cannot afford to pay a fortune to an engineer, apart from the fact the two I have called won’t touch it anyway.

I have read the article on this website and am happy to order the parts if anyone could confirm what parts i need to order or what even is wrong with it.

I would really appericate any help.

    Thanks
    Vicky

Any sign of ice behind the salad draw area in the fridge. The fan doesn’t operate until it senses a temp of approx-12 to 14 so it takes a while to start.
Was it the back of the freezer or fridge you took out ?

    Vicky,

I too was unlucky enough to own an RS21 18 months ago, albeit mine had the water dispenser. Problems began with mine just out of the manufacturers warranty but luckily the retail outlet had added their own warranty in addition as a sales freebie.

I got told problem was a design fault. Freezer doesnt auto defrost properly. Ice builds up behind salad draw in fridge. Fridge begins to smell stale (air not circulating due restricted fan), fan ultimately gets noiseier then fails completely. And if you have the water dispensor it freezes solid. Retail outlet wouldn’t/couldnt fix it within 3 months and so I was given a new replacement a Samsung RSH1.

Allegedly new and improved. 18 months old and its got exactly the same problems 🙁 Its still a rubbish design. Still poor quality and the Edinburgh Samsung service centre is a shambles.

Best response i’ve had is via the Executives Office at the UK Samsung HQ. Warranty covers faulty parts not a well documented design fault. Perhaps suggest they ought to honour a repair?

    01932 455000 or uk.execoffice@samsung.com

Dont get me wrong the service will still be rubbish. It’s going to take them 3 weeks to fix my fridge. BUT they will refund me a temporary fridge cost up to £120, and will add a new two year warranty to the repaired unit for free.

Good luck! Suppose next time, like me, you’ll have to avoid Samsung 😉

its a design fault vikky, ring samsung and tell them you have an rs21 that needs the modified evap that was exposed on the watchdog program on BBC. the fault goes back to at least 2002 models and if the appliance is under 5 years of age they can be pushed into a F.O.C. repair as the appliance had a known fault from manufacture. the company has a duty of care to you.trading standards will back you on this one, ask the C.A.B.
