ParticipantWe’ve just had a shiny, new kitchen installed, but decided to reuse our old Diplomat 8242 dishwasher because it was working well and because we’ve spent so much on parts over the years that I was reluctant to chuck it out.
Anyhoo, during the first wash in the new kitchen, we heard a loud bang and the circuit breaker tripped. We didn’t know it was the dishwasher at the time, but it subsequently developed a fault (never-ending wash program) After some research on these marvellous forums, I replaced the surpressor.
That cured the never-ending program problem. However, we have a new fault now (what fun!) During any program the machine will pause at random intervals, emit 2 short beeps and then continue. Dishes are washed OK and the program ends eventually (but a normal program takes more than 3 hours). No fault codes are displayed. I’ve reset the machine but that makes no difference.
I’m not going mad am I – these machines don’t normally double-beep several times mid-program and 3+ hours is a long time for a normal program ? It’s as if the machine thinks the door has been opened then closed and does a double-beep to indicate the program is continuing. My thoughts :
1. Faulty door catch – perhaps damaged during the kitchen upheaval ?
2. Faulty logic board – perhaps damaged when the surpressor went pop or during subsequent use before the surpressor was replaced ?
I can live with the beeps, it’s the tutting that’s driving me mad (the wife wanted a new dishwasher to go with the new kitchen) so any thoughts on the most likely cause gratefully received.

Hmm, scratch that – the original problem has not been fixed – I just had to cancel the program after 3.5 hours. Water is hot. Dishes clean – just never seems finish the cycle. Still doing the beep-beep and restarting every few minutes

ParticipantCan someone please tell me where the timer/logic board is located on these units ? Many thanks, Pete

Start by having a read of THIS ARTICLE.
The fault you are describing is not “logical” – this always points to corruption issues.
The pcb is in the facia panel, so you’ll need to hoik the door outer panel off to access it.
Stay safe, power off first.

My name is Ozymandias, fixer of dishwashers: Look on my works, ye Mighty, and despair !
😀
Thanks for the advice. I has a look at the PCB and visually at least it seemed fine. There was a little gunk across 2 tracks near the speaker which I cleaned off. I also cleaned the contacts of the door switch and soap dispenser.
The other thing I notced was the door catch assembly seeemed a bit loose – I suspect it was not clipped into it’s mountings properly so the door switch was not fully engaging when closed. I notice these clips are accesible from outside the machine if the decor door is not in place – I wonder if they were pushed and became unclipped during the kitchen installation. Maybe.
Anyway, reassembled and it’s just completed a wash, sans beeps ! I’m not sure exactly what the fault was so can’t be certain it won’t just reappear on the next program. But for now at least, I’m celebrating – dodging a £500 bill for a new machine certainly feels like a reason to celebrate just now.
Thanks again for the advice.
PS – just added up our outlay on parts and repairs for this machine since we inheritted it with the house in 2006 : £371 😯

Hero to zero 😥
It worked for a couple of times but then the old fault returned. Sigh.
Didn’t want to risk the cost of a new PCB, so sent the old one to QER for repair. They found + fixed a fault (although they didn’t say exactly what) and I’ve installed it. First program completed normally – so fingers crossed.

Just to this follow-up, the QER repair seems to have worked. It’s been faultless ever-since. I guess something on the board must have got fried when the mains suppressor blew.
Out of interest, I asked QER exactly what the fault was, but no reply yet. Anyway, it’s working now.
Penguin45 – you were right (corruption issues of some sort)
Many thanks for the advice/Pete

ParticipantLife with an ADP8242 is never boring. New fault this time : it’s not possible to select a wash program. On switching the unit on the ‘standard’ wash light is flashing, but pressing the program select button does not change program. I still get a positive click when depressing the button so that seems to be functioning OK, but the machine does not respond to the input.
I have tried about 50 times to perform the reset procedure, but either I’m doing it wrong, or this fault is preventing it from working.
From reading the fault finding guide, it seems the fault could be caused by a dodgy door switch preventing a program from being selected. When I close the door, the machine issues a double beep, so it obviously recognises that the door state has changed – if the switch was faulty would this happen ?
As always, any advice much appreciated. Something seems to go wrong with this machine every 6-12 months and it’s getting boring now. This might be it’s last chance to avoid a trip to the tip.

ParticipantJust to follow up this latest issue – I took the front panel off last night. Door catch seems to be operating normally and is activating the micro switch. On closing the door the machine issues a double-beep so I think the door latch is OK.
In general : no corroded contacts or other issues visible. The detergent dispenser also seems OK as far as I can tell.
I wonder if the surpressor and/or logic board have gone (again)

You know what?
In my simple and non technical mind, I’d say enough is enough and bin it, dealing with the wife’s tutting/I told you so would seem to be the best way to go now. I’m rapidly reaching that point with my own Bosch machine (7 years old).Sorry and good luck!

ParticipantLol – I reached the same conclusion earlier today and ordered a new Neff S54M45X0 from our local dealer. So I bid farewell to my old nemesis later this week !
