The solenoid was burnt out and only the complete unit available for £30….which is more than the machine is worth.
carefully prised the frame open, lifted off the end-plate and slipped the coil out.
I had a dead Hotpoint 9577 washer , the fill-valve coil was exactly the same size and spec. (moulded into the plastic) removed coil and swapped into the Matsui frame…15 minutes spent and thirty quid saved 😀
Some coils are about 3 MM taller but the Hotpoint one had the correct bore as well.

Ah – that’s an “Eaton” valve coil. Regrettably the Chinese stuff is a poor imitation. This is one of the few occasions when a bit of cunning artificery (If it’s not a word, it bl@@dy well ought to be… 😀 ) will actually be an improvement on the original!
