ParticipantHello folks our washing machine is making a strange scratching sound as it slowy spins the wash, but when it speeds up the noise go’s away.
Plus there is a smell which is like burning motor type smell ie electrical.I have checked the drum nothing is lose in it and it spins without any noises.
Just wondering what the problem could be ie brushes or bearings is it possible to fix as all in all a great machine that is 7 1/2 yrs old and hopefully could go on for a few more!!!
Thanks for any replies Meloned. 😕

I have took out the brushes from the motor and they were well and truly worn right down to the metal rivet bit that holds the carbon onto the spring.(approx 5mm depth on the the short side)
This in turn has left a slight pittting ring all around the cummulator bit I have with some very very fine emmery paper cleaned but that still shows will this affect the running of the machine with the new brushes in? Cheers for any advice on this Regards MelonedSeptember 15, 2009 at 4:13 pm #296933clivejameson

Bosch would have you renew the motor with the scar around the commutator but every one i’ve come across i’ve cleaned with emery which has smoothed it although not got rid of it, and only ever had one motor go down as a result (i suspect the armature was already goosed by the heat of the brush failure anyway)
Give the comm. a brush out with an old toothbrush after, install the new brushes then run on a full spin program with no load to bed them in.
