    Hi All,

I’m looking for a new Fridge and a new Freezer. I currently have a fridge/freezer combi – inherited when I purchased my house – which doesn’t have nearly enough room in the freezer compartment.

I’ve been toying with the idea of getting a seperate chest freezer and retaining the fridge, but it’s going to be a waste of space and energy as the freezer is useless. So now I’m thinking of getting a new fridge and a new freezer.

I haven’t been able to find much information about stand alone fridges or freezers, is there any reason for this?

So in essence, I’m asking for advice on two fronts, should I get a seperate fridge and freezer or a combi? Either way, which would you recommend?

Size wise, with both appliances, I’m probably looking at no more than 120-125 wide, and about 160 in height, although that all depends on what’s on offer, I have a whole wall which can in theory take the new appliances.

Budget is about £500 including delivery, possibly push it up to £600 it depends on how much I spend on a washing machine.

On that related note, does anybody actually have a AW23 as I see a lot of talk about buying it, but not much about how it works once you have it. Is there anything comparable in build quality and reliability for cheaper. In these hard times it’s always best to ask although I expect the answer to be no.

Sorry for the wall of text for my first post.

    Hi Purp

Seperate items will give more storage capacity compared to a combi just be aware that the electricity costs are higher by running two seperate machines.

For your budget of £600 you would expect to get a pair of Beko`s or a pair of Indesit`s by upping the budget to £700 odd you could purchase Hotpoint by going again up to £700 you could get Bosch not to mention Liebherr but that`s another ballgame altogether 😉

The AW23 compares favourably to a Bosch Classixx machine except that you can have a five year warranty included if you wish. The service is provided by a local engineer, who will in most cases will be the same one who installed it and the price of parts are much cheaper. More info can be had here on the ISE website.

    Hay Don,

Can you estimate the difference I could expect energy consumption and cost wise between a tall combi and two seperates. Also which tend to be “better” – chest or upright freezers?

I’m pretty easy as far as looks go, more interested in reliability.

I realise I don’t live down in exeter but if I was to walk into your shop with £700 in my pocket (see already you’ve had me push up my budget), what would you recommend to me? I should probably mention that we would realistically need less Fridge space than freezer space. Our current combi is 180ish upright 60/40 Fridge (I think), and the space in there is fine for us.

    Cheers again,

According to Bosch spec two appliances would cost £48.12 a year while the biggest fridge freezer they produce would cost £36.96 p.a. obviously the storage in the latter is not as large as the two seperate units but it does give you an idea.

For more freezer space than fridge, I would look at the Bosch GSD26N01 largish freezer and the KTR16A21 fridge this combo would reduce your budget back to about the 6 mark. Or to go even bigger on the freezer the GSV30V21 but then the budget gets bigger also.

    Hay Don,

I guess it defeats the object of them being energy efficient if I got two seperate appliances, but then the extra space probably makes up for it.

I’ll have a word with my missus tonight and might pick your brain a little in the next few days depending on what she says.

    Enjoy your weekend 🙂
