ParticipantEvaluated this one a couple of years ago found it lacking and not suitable, at the time, for our industry.
I have also looked at a couple more systems and found them lacking especially for the single operator.
Who ever produces a suitable system will have to have worked at the sharp end first to understand the requirements.October 31, 2003 at 7:00 pm #105942sumphose
ParticipantHave to agree, this program is not devised for our Industry. As part of an ongoing DASA evaluation,a number of “service” progams have been looked at, most were rejigged from another trade or service industry. The good ones were so over priced, they would put the overspend on the Scottish parliment to shame. Eurorealm have a decent product, which links in with their stock control program, and a national sales stock program. Excellent for updating prices, at the touch of a button. I have been using it for 7 years, virtually problem free 😯

KeymasterYou got any links or contact numbers for that Sumphose as Dave and I have been looking at a few and have found exactly the same problems. However, it would appear that Service Director has been seriously re-jigged with realtime updating from their mobile module which could save shedloads of admin time alone.
No system is perfect BTW. 😉

ModeratorEurorealm are at http://www.eurorealm.co.uk/Software.htm phone: 0118 9732977
and I to have used them for years as they look after and develope Stocklink for Wash Vac. I have asked time and again for a trial of their (rather dated now sounding) Service 2000 but all I ever get is a few a4 pages of screen shots. Despite being one of their customers they have never shown any interest in trying to sell me the product. Their Stock and Stock 2000 is good though and they always answer the phone straight away for tech support so it could be a good one.

ParticipantContacts as above post. Eurorealm have a new system under development. They do not give out freebies or trials, but usually turn up at shows. Stocklink from washvac is one of their programs, usage of their service and stock programs are similar, with reports tailored to suit.At the last service show,in luton, the “real” time service programs, using the internet and pda’s, were quoting 5 figure setup fees with substancal annual costs. Some were impressive and could be adjusted for our industry, again at cost. All were aimed at corporate users.

Alex,
Got quoted a minimum 10 grand from Job Logic for their system, Eurorealm actually came down to Devon from Reading to give me a demonstration, I thought it was very good and at 2.5 grand for the basic system much cheaper.
cheers

Keymaster£10K is about the norm for most. For what I wanted, a bit customised I’ll grant you ;), I was quoted >£50K just to impliment the basics.
Needless to say I came up with an alternative plan that I’m still working on.

It’s a frightening cost for small one man set ups, but I’m now in the situation where i have to get something and Eurorealm is the only one i can afford really ( and thats pushing it ), so if you come up with something fairly soon Ken I would very interested.
cheers

ParticipantDepending on how ones’ business operates, you might look at the accounting package “Cashbook Complete” from Acclaim software in NZ. It’ll do all the cash/ contact/ stock control that the average small business might require. As I’m on my own ( not needing on-line call scheduling or anything like that) I run happily with Cashbook, and schedule jobs on a freeware reminder system “Quick to-do light”

Hi
As a one man band, I have developed my own system using a Palm OS handheld. The calender, ToDo’s, Memo & contacts are ideal for for booking appointments and setting reminders etc.
I have also bought database software for it which is perfect for keeping a large database of spares (Currently 1500 & growing daily) with info on part number, price, cost from varios suppliers and monthly usage and more.
I also keep my daily calls on the data base which keeps track of all my outstanding and current work. This allows me to do a lot of my paperwork at the job as I can synchronise with the desk PC when I finish the days work.
Total cost me was £250 for the Palm computer and £30 for the database software
This will not suit anyone employing engineers, but for a one man band its ideal, and all in the palm of your hand, no heavy manuals, books or even a laptop.
I am looking into a Pocket PC version which apparently is even betterRegards

Hi Bob
The one I use is from these people http://www.handbase.com.
I know they do a version for Pocket PC. It very easy to set up (you can download the manual & print it from the website)
