ParticipantHi,
I’ve tried to find the model details for this dishwasher but it isn’t in the manual nor on the quick reference guide. It’s an Ikea by Whirlpool slimline machine. It was in the house when we moved in, it must be about 2 years old and we were the first people to us it. It is built in and has the controls on the lip of the door, there is a P button to select program on the left of the control panel, to the right of the P are 5 programs lit in red, then 2 digit number indicator and the rinse aid and salt level indicator, then finally on the right is the start button.
When we start a cycle we can hear the water pumping in but then there doesn’t seem to any circulation of the water, it pumps out the water afterwards. It goes on to complete the cycle and there isn’t any further beeping or interruption to the cycle. I was just wondering if anyone can offer any advice before we call an engineer out.
Many thanks in advance.

After it fills, apply no. 1 ear to door and see if you can hear a faint humming noise.

Yes it hums after the water seems to have gone in. Sorry I don’t wound very technical.

Right – the humming noise is power going to the motor. The circulation motor may be stuck. Two years without use can make the water seals stick together. You may be able to break it free by manually turning the motor. Alternatively, the start/run capacitor may have failed – this effectively provides a “kick” to start the motor.
Power off if you’re going in and beware of the metal edges – you can shave with them……..

Thank you for your help. Sorry but I don’t think I’ve explained it very well. It has been used for about 18 months and starting misbehaving last night. Is it still worth us checking to see if the circulation motor is stuck? Or is more likely to be the capacitator?

If it’s been running, the capacitor is the more likely candidate. Possibly blocked.

Many thanks for all your help. One final question: is there anything we can do to check for a blockage, I assume rodding it is out of the question?

Dis-assembly is the only proper way. Quite unusual with a Whirlpool one, providing the filters have been located correctly.
