ParticipantHi Folks!
Hope someone can help me diagnose a problem with an AEG Competence oven.
The story so far…
Put the oven on last week and went back a while later to see if it had reached temperature to find it was off. Realised that the RCD had tripped. Without thinking I flicked the RCD back on and put the oven on again. A few minutes later there was a loud bang and the oven was off again.
I have stripped the oven down and found no obvious signs of any part of damaged; no scorching around any components, both the grill and oven elements are fine and the cooling fan control thermostat looks fine.
Now when I switch it on the element heats up put the fan does not work so the oven itself only gets warm not hot. Also, if you set the temperature to say 200oC the indicator light goes off within a minute rather than the usual twelve or so minutes, but the oven is only warm.
I checked around the fan area again and can see no obvious signs of damage and the wiring seems in good order.
Any thoughts as to what the problem might be?
One additional problem…I have no idea what the model number is…I have checked all over and can find nothing.
Many thanks for any help you can offer.
Cheers
Mark

Hi Mark.
There is usually a rating plate around either of the door apertures or if is an undercounter oven it will have a rating plate on the top of the appliance so you will need to ease it forwards slightly from its housing to get at it.
As for the fault, have you tested the elements for both continuity & insulation? If not you will need to do so with a relevant test meter. Please isolate the product from the mains electric supply before any work is attempted. Also, you say the fan is not working, is that correct? The motors don’t usually blow in my experience, usually the shaft seizes or they can get noisy but it is possible. It could also be the selector but that is assuming it has one.
Really the model, serial & product number would be needed first as without that, we are p1551ng in the wind.

Hiya!
I have looked all over the thing and there is no sign of a rating plate anywhere nor any sign of where a plate once was that has subsequently fallen off so I guess I am stymied. ïŒ
The elements are both fine. It is the fan for the oven element that is not running but it is clean and moves freely when spun by hand.
Many thanks anyway

Element works but no fan suggests fan motor failure or cooked wiring.
Model number will additionally be found on the oven casing, the user book or your purchase invoice.
