KeymasterOkay I have some of the guys over on the DVD Forums working on some logos for me as a pet project and they are starting on them today with any luck. Ted knows about this I don’t think the rest of you do.
Anyway…
I have them working on four logos in total for teh following:
UKW as my effort isn’t really that good I don’t think.
NWAR, ditto. 😕 And I really must get some time to work on that site!
DASA – This is the shocker! Sorry people but the DASA logo looks as if it escaped badly scarred from the 1970’s and that’s being kind to, frankly it looks shite. So for £35 I think it’s worth seeing what a whole bunch of graphic artists can do with it to make it more modern and hopefully appealing as well as eye-catching. If no-one goes along with that I’ll stand the £35 out my pocket but I reckon it’s worth a try.
Network DASA – regardless of what happens to ND or the name, whatever, I think we need something that *LOOKS* professional, well here’s a cheap way of accomplishing that for a starter. It gives us something to work with and a pretty picture to use in the meantime so we at least look organised and proffesional.
The guys that do this are pro’s at graphical design, mosty for the web and advertising so they know what they’re about. This is just a bit of out-of-hours fun for them and we’ll see what they come up with, hopefully it’ll be of use.

K.It isn’t only the Logo, but there again there is a sea change and at last Dasa may be on the up. It will take a while, but I’m confident. Desparately need new blood though.
I’ve had some old Misery keep phoning me trying to find out if there is a chance he will be part of DASA-NET without becoming a member, I’ve told him, “If you aint in it, you won’t win it”. Why he doesn’t pay up & shut up, I don’t know.

Yeah this is true, but I have always held that the company logo, be it good, bad or indifferent, does give an initial indication of what to expect from it. Now tell me what DASA’s says?
I always remember a CEO telling me that they changed the logo every ten years or slightly less so that the business always looked fresh and it projected an image of staying with the times, I tend to agree with that position, hence sprucing up the nwar site as well which is seriously needing refreshed.

Oh I wonder who that is, he wouldn’t happen to cover a postage stamp sized area in the PE postcodes would he? 😉

Okay, so stage two kinda happened before stage one, but what the hell. 😕
New UKW logo should be in play this week, hopefully tomorrow all being well and then the site should look truly proffesional.
Any ideas on logos for DASA and Network DASA, the people doing them are looking for some inspiration?

How about Neil Howieson’s idea a while back on the mailing list.

I don’t think so, try Lincolnshire, as in Tea Party. Hope he hasn’t got access to this section.

Alterations to the Dasa Logo have been muted about for a couple of years. I remember a Scottish member bringing down some suggestions to an AGM awhile ago. At the time it went down like a damp squid. As you say times are changing. Produce some eye catching examples and we will see what we can do . Who knows it may be the kick start we all need.
With regards to certain companies wanting something for nothing. This can not be allowed to happen. You have to speculate to accumulate. Surely it can not correct for people to invest in the future of their industry and then the others sit on the side lines until they see a financial benefit and then follow like lemmings. You only get out of these things what you are willing to put into them.
If people are not prepared to support their industry and work for the general good of the whole industry they desereve to be left behind.

I’m not talking about an alteration, I’m thinking more on a total re-think of the logo!
It looks old, dated, is hard to read what it is when reduced any way, is not web friendly and frankly just looks crap. It’s been left behind the times…in about 1985! But the rub is, that’s the initial impression that people get of the DASA organisatation, which can’t be good surely?
I’ll post some of them in here when I get them, but we’ll have to pick a “winner” for the competition reasonably soon after I get enough entries. I’ve had one already which looks very cool, might even blag it for NWAR! 😆
But to give you an idea of the quality look at the UKW one or this:

And it spoils the look of my vans 😥
The guys in the DVD forums are obviously wizard at this stuff, personally I am crap at anything arty and creative like this, so I can’t really help with any design ideas, but could something along the lines of an appliance be incorporated in the logo somewhere.
