i’m thinking of taking on a young lad, to train him up into being an all rounder in the trade.
the lad in particular is 20 years old and comes from an engineering/mechanical background, where i believe, he’s being taken advantage of.
i’m wondering if anyone would know of any government incentives available, with regards to taking on a young person in our trade?
also, can anyone recommend books that would cover the basics in refrigeration and laundry to supplement the hands on training that i would be giving?
one idea, would be to put him through a recognised training course, can anyone recommend ones that they’ve been on, or sent employees on?

i really would like this experience, for him and me, to have a ‘structured’ feel to it and also for him to possibly learn away from his time with me and then see things that he’s learned put into practice, when he’s on the road with me.
any info, ideas or suggestions would be gratefully received.

    thanks.

Damn! I wanted a monopoly in the Burnley area when all the old gits around here finally retire 😉

A few years back I did a course over at Preston uni. It’s a City and Guilds in…

“The repair and service of domestic appliances.”

All the washer stuff was out of date, but the refridgeration part was very helpful.

If he’s on any kind of benefit at the moment it may be wise him approach the DWP with your companies intentions on taking him on. I hear theres £2000 a company may be rewarded.
