I was called out to look at one of these today as a cash job. I work on another manufactuers products usually but remember working on the old 95 types back in the day. This is a totally new beast. The tub is a sealed type & the bearings have gone. The customer doesn’t think she registered with Hotpoint for her 5 year parts warranty. Did she have to do this or not? She says it is over a year but is no more than two apparently.

If I do end up going back to do this repair, which I doubt, does the tub just come out through the top? I couldn’t see any way of removing the front panel but would be happy if anyone can give me some pointers.

    PM me if you prefer.

    Thanks in advance.

As the Indesit Company will be charging her £99.85 to repair it under the five year parts warranty they are not too fussy how old it is. They would always go of the date code in any event. Tell your customer to give them a ring and politely refuse to pay the extra £60 they will try to extract for a further 12 months cover. :rolls:

PS. It does appear to be a wrap around cabinet so out through the top it is. 😥

Yup out the top with it and the tubs are heavy b*&^{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d}s, had one this week brand new and leaking from the welded seam you could see the drum through the split in the weld, Curry’s and Indesit wouldnt change it as it had been bought 3 months ago and put into storage until the couple moved into their new house.jj

If it is less than 6 months, this may be of interest to you & your customer.

Proving goods were faulty when you bought them.

Where the goods are faulty, take them back within 6 months and the shop has to prove they WERE NOT faulty when you bought them. After 6 months you must prove they WERE faulty when you bought them.

By law you have up to six years to make a complaint, but this doesn’t mean goods must last six years, they must last what most people would consider to be a ‘reasonable’ length of time. So if there is wear and tear that breaks the product then the likelihood is you have no claim. Yet if it was an unreasonable fault, you do.

If there is an argument over whether the goods are faulty or not – the burden of proof is on the consumer.
