ParticipantHello
I have a Bosch Exxcel model SGS43E02GB/43 and it has a regular fault:
The auto cycle runs (starting at 130 on the display), and counts down to around 120 to 118, then the display goes blank. This is around the time that a click in the door is heard – presumably the powder being released.
Opening and closing the door eventually fixes it, with the display coming back to life and the cycle continuing from where it first failed.
I have replaced the door interlock switch, then all the relays on the control board (four of them).
This did appear to help, but the problem has reached a stage now where most washing cycles stop, and gentle tapping of the front panel in the region of the control module usually sets it going again.
I have inspected the circuit cards closely and cannot see any poor soldering, although most of the components are surface mounted, and are therefore pretty small.
Could this be a problem with the connections to the control module, or some transducer in the door area?
Any suggestions gratefully received, as my wife is itching to have it recycled.
Thank you.

Thank you for the advice – I have measured the resistance of the wax motor at about 3.5K – do they intermittently go to a low resistance and damage the control module?
Also, what does S.I.G. stand for?
Thank you again.

Spectrum is green………
The release mechanism is refered to as a wax motor; it is in fact a PTC device (positive thermal co-efficient). Over time, the ptc breaks down and will ultimately short circuit. If it has done it once, it will do it again I’m afraid.
You could try replacing the motor first, as you may get away with it – p/no 166635 actuator, about a tenner last time I checked. The pcb is obviously rather more expensive!

Thank you again.

Ahh……
Just realised the significance of S.I.G.
Thank you, Colonel White.
