Participantright i have a sneaky suspicion of whats going on but need someone to confirm for me.
tdl30 has metal front panel and pressed metal venting panels. utilises a stitched self adhesive felt strip bearer around the metal lip that supports front end of drum.
ordered what looked like correct spare from connect
http://connections.connect-distribution … 30+bearing
or: 5031689370417
what turned up was x53808x – 1701674 / C00206406
which in the packet appears to be the strip used for the later dryers where you had the split that it squeezed into and utilised theplastic bearers.
hotpoint spares are a useless bunch of *!@#s who wont tell me anything because i dont have a hotpoint invoice number.
i have a nasty feeling the stitched felt bearing is now been made obsolete along with the metal front venting panel. and in order to replace the bearing strip you need to replace the whole vent system *kudos to john from qualtex who suggested this prognosis*
the problem is i promised the customer a fixed dryer almost as good as new for under £80. after doing all the other work, to replace so much more would make it uneconomical… so appealing for massive help!
and also connect have done a bin check on that part – all spares in bin resemble what ive received. however they have also confirmed the part in the packet does not resemble the picture listed for the hpt code.
theyre respose is that hotpoint have now changed the spare part, whilst keepign the same part number without notifying htem the part is different!
so if anyone knows of a way to use the current carcass parts with a different part that connect have not affiliated with a tdl30 yet, or have an original spare like the one i actually need anywhere, id really appreciate it!
pic of part i need:
pic of part i received:

further to this, apparently the stitched white felt was supplied as part of a complete bearing kit too which is also now obsolete!

The original seal (1701674) was supplied as a separate part, not part of a kit. Fitting it was usually a complete waste of time, a replacement would wear away in no time at all, often the drum front and the old style metal duct had rubbed against each other and become very rough and thin.
The whole vent assy was altered and the modified kit includes a new plastic vent, new drum, filter, seals, old style plastic bearing pads, new stats, back panel and extra fan. A snip at £87 plus vat.
Even if I had one of the old type felt seals I would only fit it if the customer accepted the repair with no warranty whatsoever.

*wince*
:'(
full story:
customer comes in and asks about new machines, offer to check old one first as it wasnt heating, beleiving it to jsut be stats. besides it came from us and was about 5 years old.
got there, well it was heating, but not going round. (customer) oh i didnt notice it wasnt going round and also didnt notice it was still getting warm…
anyway thing is i foolishly said if the belts gone, a repair is probably still worthwhile cos if you replace the drum bearers and belt its almost as good as a new machine for 1/4 cost. so as its lasted 5 years i figured she looks after it, so if she gets even 2 years from the repair its been worthwhile.
anyhoos… get it to the workshop (tiny tiny utility room) and the front bearer has worn thin, hasnt even got past the ahesive strip at the top. thinking this is good, wont be any damage to drum, ran my finger round hte inside to make sure and voila is smooth as anything
ordered above mentioned part and got the different part. had another look on connect and found 5031680438390 – front felt seal. looked almost identical to the other part bar a different colour – like the soundproofing on a bosch dw. also seemed a bit softer. just figured it was a different supplier. get it and ends up being stitched and self adhesive. think bingo ive cracked it. put it on and towards the bottom bit i find its a teeny bit large and gets “lumpy” where ive had to mke room for more than that what there should be.
anyway 3 days later get a call its making a odd sound and sticking in rotation. the drum has partially ripped it off.
so yeah im heamoraging margin on the repair now, so wont be worth my while ordering any more new spares probably. i have a handlful of scrap tvr2/vtd’s ive saved to rebuild the best ones which customers have declined a repair on and just ordered a replacement, is it worth me taking the whole front vent panel off one and putting it on the new machine along with fresh pads and strip? i can write the cost of the pads off as ive got a pack of electruepart ones that were pence for a full set, and ive got that strip that also came in that i would otherwise lose/have a 30{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} restocking hit on if i returned it…
or would i be better off taking the tvm560 she initially wanted up to her?!
EDIT:includes a new plastic vent, new drum, filter, seals, old style plastic bearing pads, new stats, back panel and extra fan. A snip at £87 plus vat
oops sorry jim just seen you also mentioned new stats, and extra fan. is that complete full set of stats or just a front one?
Even if I had one of the old type felt seals I would only fit it if the customer accepted the repair with no warranty whatsoever.
Id gladly take one off your hands for the £6 or so it cost. Theres no scratching or scraping on the drum lip at all – the belt went cos a baby sock slipped between the gap underneat the front support. hence beleiving a repair was viable :S

If it was me, I’d just get another 5031680438390 and cut it to the right length and stitch it up again. Only take ten minutes.

i was tempted, but concerned that its labled as a “seal” rahter than a bearing
dont suppose anyone has any info on where/what models that was fitted to?

Sorry, don’t do Connect numbers. only the proper ones. Why the hell can’t they use the correct numbers like most other suppliers. :rolls:
As I have said I would not replace this seal without the customer accepting that it might ( most certainly will ) fail in no time at all.

I’ve done this job, tried all the combinations…..and honestly, guys, heed Jim’s advice and fit the new bits or quit while you’re ahead. This really is a “kitchen sink” job and unless you can make a good one out of 2 machines then it is not worth the bother. The drums are slightly different and the felt bearing as it was is not available. I’m all for saving stuff from landfill, but I value my sanity too…… 😆

❓ Do you know a part number for a ‘front panel kit’ or do you mean the drum & duct kit, the cost of which makes this repair rather uneconomic.
