ParticipantWell I knew this would happen.
We’ve just bought an ISE10 and our Dishwasher has decided to go on the blink in sympathy with the demise of our old Washing Machine.
Make : Whirlpool
Model : ADP5966It’s drinking Rinse Aid in roughly the same quantities that I drink Gin – and much as our plates are coming out very well I suspect that this consumption is not as Whirlpool intended.
I’m quite handly with a screwdriver and soldering iron – are there any hints and tips on what I need to do to fix this?
I can see that the Rinse Aid container seems to be leaking from around where it is mounted on the lid of the dishwasher.
Cheers, Steve

I found this replacement part
Is it easy to fit?
Is it easy to look at the old one to see if anything is obviously broken?
I fancy taking the Dishwasher apart to see if there’s anything obviously broken before I start spending money. I did remove some algae from the outside of the dispenser and I think maybe it needs hosing out a bit more.
Any help gratefully received – thanks, Steve

Power off, door outer off. The dispenser is retained by a frame and screws on the inside.
Be careful – you can shave with the stainless steel edges.

Thanks Penguin45 – I’ll watch out for the edges.
Do I remove the control knob on the front of the unit prior to removing the door trim?
To remove the door – there are 5 screws along both the left and right side – these are the ones to undo?
Can I run the dishwasher without the door trim attached?
Many thanks,

From memory (Haven’t done one for a while….), it’s just the side screws to release the door outer.
If you run the machine without the door panel there are exposed electical terminals, with obvious implications – I wouldn’t like you become DadOfManyMinus One……..

Just a quick update.
I filled the reservoir all the way up, stuck it on ‘maximum’ setting – ran till the reservoir was empty (which was about 4 washes), stuck it back to ‘minimum setting’, put a few drops in and it ran without popping up as ’empty’.
I’ve filled the reservoir all the way up – with the hope this’ll last the many months that is used to.
If not I’ll remove from the dishwasher and give it a clean out.
I think some gunk has got stuck in there which may be causing the issue.
After a wash there are no tell-tale leaks from the reservoir so hopefully it’s resolved.

ParticipantA quick update.
We think the problem is due to the rubber seal on the dispenser not sealing correctly.
I found an O-Ring that is of a suitable size, and squeezed that in to improve the seal, hopefully keeping the rinse-aid in the reservoir.
If this fails then I’ll buy a replacement dispenser.

Just to update … the issue was on the Rinse Aid filler.
The plastic ‘grommet’ thing that pressed down to make a seal had perished, my fix (in the post above) is still working and it’s been 7+ weeks and we’ve not had to refill the rinseaid.
The ‘fix’ I have it a bit heath-robinson and if I find a better pack of grommets or o-rings I’ll get something that’s better sized.
I’m a bit annoyed as this is a bit that the manufacturer must have known would fail under a certain amount of cycles. Grr.

4812 466 68497 is the sealing gasket for the rinse aid cover. spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk will be able to get you one promptly if you wish.

Thank you Mr Penguin Sir – I will enquire as to a replacement!
Now the water softener has packed up. Part of life’s rich tapestry.
