Hello there, a couple of days ago my Beko Dishwasher stopped working completely, no power light comes on………nothing.
We’ve replaced the fuse, but it’s still dead.

I phoned up 2 repair guys yesterday & one basically said get rid & buy a new Dishwasher and the other said the part i “might” need will cost over £100.

The thing is, the dishwasher has been giving a few problems lately……i.e stopping mid-cycle or at the start of the cycle. But i would just move a few dishes around & start it up again and it would be fine, so it didn’t seem like a major problem really.

The machine seemed to have stopped before the end of the last wash, as there is still about an inch of water at the bottom of the machine.

Is it a matter of just needing to replace a “part” or is the machine totally kaputt?

    I’d appreciate any advice given.

    Hi.

Why did the first guy say it was dead & what part did the second guy say it might need?

I have no idea why the first guy said that (he actually did have a “don’t care attitude” now i think back).

I cannot remember the part the 2nd guy said……but he didn’t really seem sure what part was needed anyway. He just said the part it “might need” could cost over £100.
Basically, he wanted to come & have a look at it :rolls: ……..but i’m not prepared to pay out money for someone just to come & have a look!

I’m no engineer (clearly 😆 ) but to me it seems it’s a problem with the electrics (?).

Why do you feel this is not right?

Tbh a lot of us kinda want to assess the problem we are being asked about first hand. No disrespect, but unless you are familiar in a practical sense with the mechanics of an appliance, it is extremely difficult for a user to accurately explain the fault so it could be diagnosed over the phone. It would be a little easier on here because at least you can take pictures of parts and an open discussion with several people about the problem!

And assume he spent half an hour telling you exactly how to fix it over the phone, would you then pay the engineer who told you how to fix it? It really wouldnt occur to any customer I have had ring up about this. To give the engineer the benefit of the doubt it sounded like he assumed you have followed the troubleshooting guide in your manual/handbook that details the basic maintenance, like cleaning the filters making sure you havent tripped a fusebox etc. Its quite feasible he was suggesting a worse case scenario, so you could be fully informed. Would you rather him say its probably a blocked filter it shouldnt be more than £50 for a call out and it turn out you need a new electronics board and it will cost £150 to fix. Would you then not complain that he had got you to get him out under false pretences?

Thing is the other day I had a lady who said her dryer wasnt heating. I thought it was worth looking at as the repair would be straightforward and cheap for her. turns out it was heating absolutely fine but wasnt turning. which lets jsut say has ended up costing me a lot of time with no benefit as ive had to put a new dryer because the tiny spare part she needed along with a belt is now obsolete meaning it requires major replacement body parts in order to fit the small alternative replacement to the obsolete part.

What im trying to say you can only actually hope the customer is giving you the right information to give a basic quote without seeing the machine! The more experience the engineer has the more likely you will get a more accurate quote but that is all a quote is…

If you are worried about being ripped off, why not ensure the engineer operates a no fix, no fee call out, or if he does not, that he has access to a replacement new d/w in lieu of the call-out if you source it through him?

The other option is source an engineer for your locality through here, which should ensure against any unethical behaviour as they wont want to post on here knowing full well youll have reported them to us. therefore meaning the rouge engineer loses a valuable source of knowledge and reference!!!

    Fair point.

Well my other half is going to open it up and check the wiring. If he can’t see what the problem is, then i’ll call out an engineer.
