ParticipantOK, please bear with me.
Last night oven kept switching off after being on for about 15mins. Fan wasn’t working properly, kept having to cool the oven down by fanning it myself then turning it back on again, resetting the clock. – Begining to think this was a bad idea.:(While still cooking with the oven I went on these forums and found a solution,
http://www.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/modules.p … sc&start=0
It was very helpful and said it was the thermal cut out unit. Gave a link to order the part, figured this would be the solution. Would check in the morning when I had more time.
The oven was just about working but getting very hot at this point, had to cool down and restart it four times. Then there was a VERY LOUD bang.
It turned off the electrics to the entire flat.
After getting the electric back on went to turn on the cooker switch in the kitchen. The red light came on at the wall but no power went to the oven at all. Digital clock was out, no heating up at all. This morning I have got the oven out and taken off the top plate to find that the thermal cut out unit has exploded and left charred fragments on all the wires near it. (a lot of wires). The wires look burned and are discoloured. I have picked off some black bits that were stuck to them. These wires are not all connected to the thermal cut out unit.
My question is can these charred fragments damage the wires? If I get a thermal cut out unit will that still fix the problem or has the mini explosion taken the clock and the control unit with it?
I’m currently unemployed, thanks to this stupid recession, and really can’t afford this right now. By that I mean, I can’t afford to buy new parts for the cooker to find out it still won’t work.
Hope to hear ethier that it should work with new thermal cut out unit or to not waste my time and just get a new oven.
Hope you can help

Hi Peter: Unfortunately you may well now find out that you have caused more damage by doing this.
The other problem is that the original fault you had may not have been just due to the cut out, as you said the fan was running slowly & the oven was probably overheating which is what was causing the cutout to operate. It is quite possible that you now also have a faulty control board as well if it’s Electronic, your best bet would be to call a good local engineer that does free estimates & see what they say is gone.Hope that helps: Andy
Please remember if you are opening the appliance: POWER OFF FIRST. 😯 😯
