I’ve come into this half way through, and need the voice of experience.
My smeg DWD612C leaked whilst I’ve been away. ‘Her in doors’ found the plastic nut securing the neck of the water softener unit to the bottom of the washing box split. She ordered a replacement, which arrived today. The questions I have: – (1) should there be a seal between nut and stainless base? She said there was no washer when it came off, but I have a slight ring mark in the base that doesn’t match exactly with nut size. Also the water softener unit moves slightly when the nut is done up, so can’t be water tight. (2) Which is the correct way up for the nut? One side is flat edged the other side has grooves cut across it. My instinct is for flat edge down, she say’s it was grooved edge down. I am perplexed. I can’t find a schematic diagram or anything helpful in the manual we have.
Any help would be very much appreciated.
    Regards

There should be a sealing ring – p/no 754130914. The nut is fitted with the flat side down.

Chris…doesn’t the sealing ring fit below the stainless steel and on top of the softener?

Thanks Penguin45 for your swift response.
I understand the part No. you’ve supplied relates to the gasket in the water softner cap.
I am enquiring about what if anything goes under the water softner ring P/No. 763890467 (the part I’ve replaced as original was split).
I also wanted to know what way up the softner ring went. I take it from your post the grooved side is up.
Sorry if I didn’t make myself clearer in the original post.
