Bosch KGN34X00GB Fridge Freezer

Hi!

I’ve got a problem with my Bosch fridge freezer, model number KGN34X00GB. I bought it in June ’07, in December ’08 we noticed the plastic surround at the top of the freezer had cracked, this happened becasue there was a massive build up of ice at the top of the freezer (obscured by the plastic vent). We also noticed the fridge was warmer than it should be and the food was going off quicker than it should. I defrosted the freezer but the ice built up pretty quickly again.

I defrosted it again 2 weeks ago but this time I ended up with large chunks of ice forming in the top drawer of the freezer. This time the water wouldn’t drain out of the back at first but it appears to have defrosted fully now, the only problem is the plastic at the top of the freezer has warped so much that the door won’t close.

I’ve googled and found this seems to be a common problem with this model. Is there anything I can do? Is it a lost cause?

I’m not happy that I paid £300+ for a frost free freezer that I have to defrost every couple of months to keep the fridge working. If it can’t be fixed can anyone recommend a good alternative brand/model? I need something 55-60cm wide, no more than 200cm high, freezer on the bottom, around 10cu/ft capacity, nothing too fancy just reasonably quiet and reliable!

EDIT TO ADD

I think my husband may have found the cause of the problem. While I was writing the message he managed to bend the plastic with a hairdryer so the door will shut but he just noticed the door seal has gone at the top right corner. Is it possible to replace the door seal?
