ParticipantHi everyone,
Firstly I’d like to say I think this is such a good site, I seem to have stumbled across it while searching for a specific model and it seems the only unbiased/consumer orientated site out there for fridge buyers.
I am in a little predicament and I wanted to seek the advice of anyone who knows their fridge freezers. I have a 17 year old integrated AEG Santo 3049i fridge freezer that has been on its last legs for a few years now. I have held off on replacing it until I got a new kitchen. Unfortunately finances are a little stretched at the moment and it is unlikely that my new kitchen will be arriving anytime soon. As such I have decided to bite the bullet and replace the AEG with a similar sized model. I am looking for a cheap fridge that will last me 3/4 years and that is the same size as the AEG so it can slot into the same space.
The AEG is integrated and has the following measurements:
width 540mm, depth 547mm, overall height 1772mm, fridge door length 1032mm, freezer door length 644mm, space between fridge and freezer doors 53mm, space between freezer door and bottom is 32mm. The freezer is on the bottom.I have scoured the net but not been able to find any comparable sized models. I presume that the best match would be the AEG but they are all over budget. If anyone could point me in the right direction, towards a good economical and reasonably cheap fridge freezer that fits the gap, I would be eternally grateful.
Many thanks,
Lucy 🙂November 9, 2009 at 12:08 am #302931Penguin45

Hi Lucy
If it`s just for a short period of time you could have the AEG removed and slide a small 50cm wide freestanding fridge freezer into the housing.
If you want to replace like for like the only 60:40 split fridge freezers I can find which are reasonable in price are the Indesit INCB320AI and
Belling BE816 @ Trading Post Appliances due to the age of your old AEG it looks like the freezer doors are slightly smaller than the AEG, a good kitchen fitter should be able to overcome this though 😉HTH 🙂

Hi Don,
You’re such a sweetheart! Thank you for your advice… I’ll go and check these two out and hopefully one of them will do the trick.
Muchas gracias,

Hi Don,
I think I’m going to opt for the Indesit. Thanks for sending that link through, I spoke to a nice lady at Indesit and she gave me the exact measurements for the different sections and sent me a brochure through. I finally got a carpenter to come and have a look at the fridge housing today and he says that he can put in the Indesit easily enough without any major issues, so it looks like I will have a new fridge installed for Christmas. Once again, a big thanks to both Don and Penguin45 😀
