I’m looking for a dishwasher, and notice that some Siemens and Bosch machines are marked “Made in Germany”, and others don’t say where they’re made. Their enquiry line wouldn’t say how to tell where any particular machine was made, but hinted it might be possible to interpret the model number.
Is this the significance of some being “GB” suffix and some “UK”?
Are their German-made machines better than their Polish or Spanish ones?
Present favourite is Siemens SN25M230GB, £399 from John Lewis with 5 year guarantee.

It may well be possible if you are an employee of BSH.

The biggest factor is the labour force costs less in these countries than in Germany. This in turn ensures they remain competitive in the market place.

HTHAs said i’d buy the siemens at that price you really can’t go wrong. From what I can tell of the models I have here I think the Exxcel and Logixx are both german then the classixx and non-range named aren’t, they are the ones with the plastic base and not so solid feeling door. Strangly the slim line classixx has made in germany stamped on it though. I’d be looking from the Exxcell range, but the Siemens at that price is a no brainer.

Thanks for the advice.
In the end, the cutlery drawer and internal arrangements of the next Siemens up (the SN26M290) was adjudged by my domestic appliance manager to be worth an extra 70 quid, so that’s what we’ve gone for. After a bit of a lecture on the economics of high street shops, my local independent matched the box-shifters on price after I made the point that it was better to sell one at a small profit than none at a big profit.
Comet are selling the same model at 130 quid dearer, and wanted another 125 quid to extend the basic guarantee to 5 years. The Siemens web site says that these models have a free 5-year warranty by sending off a form – I wonder if Comet take the forms out of the pack so punters don’t realise they’ve been doubly conned?
Just hope the one I get is German made – the display one in Comet certainly was.
