Hi, just wanted advice / peace of mind before I go out and buy a replacement.

Fridge-freezer is just over 5 years old so outwith warranty. Fridge is not cooling. I am the least technical person in the world.

I called someone out who said the refrigerant needed topping up. I paid £80.

Fridge still not cooling. In fact, fridge not making much noise at all. Turned unit off at the wall and on again, noise resumed and fridge seemed to cool. An hour later, all quiet and contents lukewarm to touch.

    Freezer fine throughout.

Called repairman back and explained this. He said the on/off resolution pointed to compressor fault and as that would be over £200 to fix, I should buy new fridge freezer. This was diagnosed over the phone.

Can anyone please confirm that this should be my course of action as I’ve already lost £80 and would hate to buy new unnecessarily ?

Hi, it is/was a frost free model. I can’t remember seeing ice on the back panel and water running down the back until a few weeks ago.

After the refrigeration top up, it was alernating between visible ice for an hour or so on teh back panel and water running down for an hour or so.

I gave in and have bought a new fridge freezer.

I would still like advice for peace of mind though.
