Customer rang tonight to ask if I would carry out an assessment on a Indesit dishwasher that has caught fire. The insurance company have given her the money for a replacement but want a report to see if this was a design fault or short term build quality.
Did an estimate on a Zanussi Studio washing machine last week (drum bearings had failed after 18 month) and the insurance company rang me up asking about the build quality etc.
Are these insurance companies beginning to put pressure on the manufacturers to build appliances that last or is it my wishful thinking.

    Re: Insurance Assessments

Like all insurance companies these days they are maintaining stats on their customers i.e those that claim, labour costs of repairers like garages, and most probably appliances in order to maximise their profits and reduce their expsure. Just like cars some makes cost more to repair just as same as whitegoods and in the case of whitegoods more to replace when it is deemed they are unviable to repair. We may see that insurers will either not insure certain brands or more likely increase premiums to their customers to insure them.

I had an idiot phone me on Friday wanted a free quote and free writen report for his insurance company, knife through the evap plate of the ice box on a 10 year old fridge. He asked if I did free reports for insurance, he got quite upset when I told him we charge for the call and an additional charge for a written report to be sent to his insurers.
