ParticipantHi – I hope someone can help. The door lock light keeps coming on despite the door being well and truly locked. Hence the program won’t move on. It has done this occasionally for a while but restarting the program seemed to get it going again. Unfortunately this time it won’t. It stopped last night just before the cycle was due to rinse and spin. Machine is about 5 years old and I replaced the motor a couple of years ago. Any advice kindly accepted.

There are a couple of things I would be looking at, firstly check that the door hook is dead central to the actual lock close until you can see the hook against the lock, if the hook is slighty off centre you can get problems, try carefully pulling the door up until it is centred.
The other thing is brushes, brushes cause the door lock to flash even when door is closed.
Other than that the door lock itself (not very common) and PCB….
Check the first 2 first though.

ParticipantThanks for that. Will check and let you know. If it is the brushes are they easy to replace?

Yeah dead simple. Remove rear panel then belt then motor, you will see the brushes, 1 on either side of the motor secured with 2 screws each, remember to remove the plastic locking tabs on the NEW set of brushes… and of course ALWAYS unplug before delving in! :zap:
Brushes available here:

ParticipantThe brushes are well worn down! So am going to order another pair and see if this fixes the problem. Many many thanks for your help.

Hey only me again ! Carbon brushes have arrived today. I’ve managed to replace the one on the right of the motor but can’t get to the left one. You said that I should remove the motor but I can’t for the life of me see how to do it – I’ve removed the big screw which allows me to swing it clockwise slightly but otherwise I’m stumped!
The left carbon brush is at such an awkward angle that I can’t see how else I would get to it without removing the motor? 😕
Any help much appreciated.

Have you removed the rear panel? Motor is held by one bolt.

Yep did that before I replaced the first carbon brush and removed the one bolt. But it only swings clockwise. On the left hand side of the motor it has two stainless steel attachments (top and bottom) which just seems to allow it to swing around. There doesn’t appear to be any other screws etc to remove and I’ve tried lifting it but that doesn’t seem to work either. I’ve had a look for a tech manual online too for some indication of how to remove the motor but no luck there.
Am I being a homer simpson ?

Pull harder…… Remove plug from motor first.

I think I have same problem; machine been working fine after I was well pleased with my success of having the machine in bits to change the drum bearing set, but now the green light shows door is open, even after opening and closing it a few times. The only program it seems to work on is Drain. Should I change the brushes as well? how does the door lock light relate to having to change brushes though?
Thanks, Chris

Self diagnostics on start up is the answer. It will run the drain cycle because no motor action is required on that programme.
