Hi again and thanks to all who replied to my last post on washer-dryers(months ago 😳 )
I need a washing machine that’s smaller than 60cm width – more like 40cm or so, to fit into a tiny space but not under a worktop..
Which would you recommend – Zanussi, the small front-loading one with a load of 3kg or Hotpoint/Hoover/Whirlpool top-loaders with a 5kg load please? I read here that the top-loaders consume more water and electricity. Spoke to local independent retailer who recommends top-loader because of load size and dismisses the water/electricity difference. It’s for a single-person household btw. Am willing to pay for quality (got a Miele at first, before realising it was too big and had to return 😥 )

Please keep one subject on on thread in one forum, it saves a lot of confusion.
Front loaders, a smaller machine is the only option I’m afraid. Almost all are 600mm wide these days.
Toploaders… personally I despise the things. Horrible to use, horrible to work on but some people do like them.
Don’s your man for this question and he’ll no doubt pick up on this later or tomorrow.

As K rightly says the compact washer would be the way to go, the Zanussi ZWC 1300, is probably the best one, while the capacity is slightly smaller it does have a better spin speed. However they are no longer listed on the Zanussi website so I would grab one rather quick if you decide on it.
The top loaders are easier to load but the drum flaps do have vicious springs on them. Slimline top loaders have very similar consumption levels on water and electricity, Their American counterparts like the LSQ8033 are very hungry on water and electricity 😉 are probably the machines you were thinking of.

pound for pound go with the zanussi, it means you can put a work top over it and usually the case for requiring a narrow width appliance is because floor space is at a premium therefore worksurface space is also compromised likewise, and more so with a top loader!!
