ParticipantI ordered and fitted one of these from UKWG back in August and my wife has just phoned me to say it has gone again, tripping out the oven fuse in the main fuse box in the process.
Is this likely to be a fault with the part or just bad luck?
Have there been any reports of other elements from this supplier not lasting very long?
Is there something else that could be causing the element to go?
Thanks
Steve

Hi,
There’s no issues with those elements that I’m aware of.
Is the fan clear and operating correctly as, if that’s not right, the element will overheat or have hotspots on it that will lead to early failure?

Thanks for the quick reply. The fan was def. OK yesterday and has been since I replaced the element back in August. I guess it may not have been working today but I think my wife would have noticed that from the lack of noise (not that it’s noisy, as such) and I doubt that the fan not working just for today would cause the element to go.
So, do you think it’s just ‘one of those things’, or is there anything else that could have caused it to go so quickly?

Na, not really you get that with elements. They usually last a long time but, they’re like light bulbs really, two minutes, twenty years or anything in between really. There’s no actual lifespan.
But, if it was only bought in August if you contact Dave on spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk it will probably be replaced FOC.

Thanks for your help! The replacement part arrived the very next day and I fitted it this morning.

The oven element that was sent out as a replacement 2 months ago has just blown. 😥
The fan is clear and is still working.
I have emailed the spares department, but in the meantime, could this be a defective batch?
What else could be causing this, or is it just bad luck?
Thanks

There’s got to be another cause, there’s little to no chance that a replacement element would have blown that quickly and, I’ve seen no other reports of them failing early. Also, from August to even a couple of months ago you’d be on a different production run.
Personally, I’d be very suspect of the fan motor.

The fan definitely comes on and doesn’t go off during the cooking cycle. What would be the symptoms if there was a problem with the fan?
Also, the thermostat seems to be working OK as the red light comes on when you turn it on to set the temp and then goes off a little while after, as you’d expect.
Maybe I got one of the ‘2 minute’ ones previously referred to in this thread?

If the fan runs slowly, cuts out for any reason or the airflow blocked in any way then you will have a problem with premature element failure.
If the stat was faulty everything would be charcoaled in the oven, so that’s probably pretty obvious.
As for the 2 minute elements, we don’t use the really cheap ones, we use the better quality ones. 😉
You do get the odd one that will pop, that’s just elements, but to get two in the same oven without another reason is unheard of.
So, to take out two elements in such a short space of time would tend to lead anyone to think that there’s something else wrong as the chances of them blowing like that, after a few months, is improbable at best. Put it this way, I’ve never seen it happen in two decades without there being another explanation for the failure.
We also sell quite a few of those elements as it’s a common one and the failure rate is very low.

ParticipantMake sure the oven door is closing properly and that the hinges aren’t faulty. Is there any movement of the door when its in it’s closed position ?

Thanks for your responses – keep ’em coming!
The oven door is fine – it seals and there is no movement and no probs with the hinges.
The vents at the back of the oven aren’t blocked and the fan doesn’t cut out during cooking, but I’ve no idea if it’s running slowly or not – it certainly looks to be whizzing round and, as far as I can tell, no different than it’s ever been.
Where do I go from here?
