    Hi,

After having such a good response regarding a Bosh washing machine problem, I thought I’d ask about my dishwasher.

I’ve got a Bosch HydroSensor dishwasher (we got it as a wedding gift in 2000) – and up until very recently has functioned fine.

However, over the last 6 months the wash quality has deteriorated. We tend to use the ‘eco’ cycle on it (50 degrees, I think). When I put the machine on, it proceeds to fill but during the filling stage there are intermittent ‘thunks’ followed by what appears to be the machine emptying some water down the drain.

Eventually, the machine completes filling and starts. In trying to investigate this, I have opened the door several times during the wash cycle and found that the top arm hasn’t moved position at all. This would explain that sometimes the dishes/plates on the top rack don’t look as though they have been washed at all. I tried rotating the arm manually and it seemed free. From looking at another post, it sounds like the top arm is blocked.

I can clean the top arm (or at least investigate it to see if it blocked) – but why would I get a thunking sound during filling followed by a partial emptying?

I’ve investigated washing machines before but never taken apart a dishwasher – so I don’t know where to start! I know I haven’t given an exact model number for the machine – I need to dig that out from somewhere. Is it located on the machine somewhere?

    Thanks in advance!

Ok , first off the model number or ENr should be etched along the top edge of the door. You may need to look ‘along’ this top edge as it can be a bit difficut to spot.

The thunks when filling are most probably caused by a blocked pressure chamber and inlet hose ( ribbed hose between pressure chamber and sump ) To access these items , you will need to remove the left hand side panel when all will be revealed .

There are plenty of posts on bosch appliances not heating properly which normally come down to this blockage.
Penguin normally links to thses posts as they have some very good photo’s to link to the position of the components you should be looking for.

Oh , i found them . Read through this thread and it should explain what i’m pointing out.

    Hi

Thanks for your reply – I’ve not investigated yet – though I have found a receipt that states the model number is BOSCH SGS5358 HydroSensor Dishwasher.

I don’t think we have have problems with the water heating up -but then again I don’t recall checking the dishes immediately after a wash to see if they’re still hot.

I followed the thread and it looks like that most of my problems stem from some sort of blockage.

By the sounds of it, i need to remove the left hand panel and the lower foot plate. Not sure how to do this because I can’t see any screws to undo it to reveal all the gubbins inside.

It doesn’t sound like a quick job so I shall investigate over the weekend.

    Re: Bosch HydroSensor Dishwasher

    Hi again,

Finally got round to investigating this.

I’ve opened the left hand panel and I can see the sensor that detects an overfill is only slightly gunked up.

Whilst my dishawasher is a freestanding unit, having removed the left hand panel, it looks like the 2nd picture in this post http://www.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/modules.p … ic&t=44514

When I operate the machine I can see the water level rise in the left hand chamber which overflows into the chamber with the orange float. Sure enough, the float rises, triggering the switch to pump out water.

I can see the pipe that leads from the sensor snakes through to the front of the machine under the door (I presume its blocked leading to backpressure and a build of up water triggering the pumping action etc) – however, I can’t work out how to remove the kick plate (under the door) to expose this pipe. There are no obvious screws and I don’t want to pull too hard in case it breaks.

I’ve noticed that all along the top edge of the kick plate there are plastic tabs but they don’t appear to ‘give’.

Any ideas? Do I have to turn the machine on its side?

    Thanks

Undo the two screws at the side of the plinth.
