Hello everybody,
Wondered if anyone could let me know if my diagnosis is correct for above m/c?
The customer realised no heat was being produced, so I had a look at it and found the heater elements open circuit, and obviously shot.
Therefore, I renewed the unit this morning, and the unit still didn’t produce any heat.
I checked the connections to the two electronic devices above the heater unit ( one of which was slightly burnt) and re-connected… all o.k.However, customer phoned a short while ago to let me know the heater had stopped again.
As I’m fairly new to the business, could someone let me know if I’m right in calling the two electronic devices thermistors, T.O.C’s or some other name? Plus, are they testable, or should I renew one or both of them?

They are thermostats. One is self resetting (for controlling heat) and the other is one shot (safety stat).
Both should be short cct. Disconnect them to test.

The self resetting stat, the one without a coloured spot, may have gone intermittent due to normal wear and tear. You should keep these kits in stock anyway because they’re a common fault. However, there are various reasons why these tumblers stop heating and there have been many discussions on here in the past about them. I would recommend spending at least an hour using the search facility with suitable terms, for example “cut out”, and reading results from trade technical enquiries of the past. It’s a fantastic resource and we are very lucky to have it. Being new to the business, you have a lot of catching up to do but you’ve found the right resource!
