I have a Hotpoint CTD40P Condensor Tumble Dryer that last weekend stopped working on High Heat. The dryer was getting warm but not up to the usual temperature. Checked the forum (which is superb by the way 🙂 ) and set about locating the heater element and stats. Unfortunately managed to break a couple of spines on the heater element when removing it 🙁 so had to order a new one anyway (again, superb service from the shop 🙂 ). Checked out continuity etc and all was OK but obviously had to change element anyway! Fitted new element and, as I feared, no change – still not working on High Heat.

On further investigation I found that, for both Sensor High Heat and Timed High Heat, the element gets quite hot for a few minutes judging by the temperature of the casing. It then cools down coinciding with the following lights flashing with the drum continuing to turn:
Time Delay (1), Pre Creasecare (2) and Alarm (4). The On/Off light also flashes.

I would appreciate any help that can be given with the likely faults before I give in and buy another!

    Hi

Are the condenser and filter both clean.

Those lights indicate F11…pump open circuit. Could be the pump itself or related wiring or bad connections to PCB.

Always best to check any component with a suitable multimeter or megger before chaning anything, with the mains plug removed first of course. 😉

Thanks guys. Gave the condenser etc really good clean through. Also checked wiring through to pump and full water switch – all seem OK. I can hear pump kicking in OK and it runs until the error lights come on, when heating goes off although drum continues to turn. There was some lint about so took circuit board out and cleaned a little lint off it. Examined it for obvious sign of blown component, short circuit etc but couldn’t see anything. Put back together and switched on. Only difference is now fault is more predictable and occurs on both low and high heat.

I am at the limit of my capabilities so unless anyone has any pointers I will be calling in my local appliance engineer after the holiday.

    Thanks for help so far!

    Re: Another Hotpoint Heat Problem

Got the local repairman out who told me it was the PCB which makes sense cos everything else checks out. He has just informed me that a replacement is not available. Before I give up thought I’d ask if anyone knows if it is possible to source one from somewhere. Details are:
    Hotpoint CTD 40P
    S/N 503281046

There is also a bar code on the board itself with the following number printed on:
    5632003055M7PC
Note writing is small: 6 may be an 8 and P may be an F (perhaps i just need glasses)

You should make a note not to use that repairman again, he is telling you porkies. :rolls:

All parts for that machine are widely available at a price. There is now one PCB that replaces about four or five alternatives. However you would also need a smart card to program the new board plus a card reader to allow you to use the card.

PCB is a C00255835 around £34 ex vat.
Smartcard is C00194077 at £11.06 ext vat.
Card reader is C00263927, approx £83 ex vat.

If you Google for EMW electronics you may find that they are now repairing some of these modules, worth a phone call.
