ParticipantSeem to remember seeing a thread on here about using pattern carbon brushes in Bosch washer motors and problems it may cause.Can anyone point me to it or explain the problems.

own experience with pattern brushes from qualtex has always been positive, never used anything else but pattern over last god knows how many years.
You do need to ensure they are contacting armature before replacing motor though as 1 in every 10 won’t then its a bugger stripping motor back off.

Congratulations Mark you have won today’s star prize, a box of M&S mince pies!
Genuine brushes have longer, more heat resilient springs that ensure good contact with the commutator for their entire working life. Pattern brushes on the other hand have shorter springs and are prone to overheating, sticking and springs weakening.
The pies are in tonight’s post by the way. 😉
