ParticipantI probably have one of the longest lasting (It’s about 4 years old :rolls: ) CTD80s as they are useless, but thanks to my partner who is an electrical engineer and forums like this it keeps being fixed as I just can’t afford to replace it. Before you say ditch it and use an airer I have 2 boys with special needs who need clean bedding daily so unfortunately not an option as we just don’t have the drying space for it all or 7 sets of bedding each for them.
Anyway this time it’s squeaking, driving me insane squeaking, we think it’s a bearing somewhere but could you please help (if you know) with the following
a) Where they are
b) Which is the most common to ‘go’
c) How to access them (we regularly do the thermostat switch thingy so the back piece for that has been off)
d) Are spares still available?January 3, 2010 at 10:56 pm #307722iadom

The rear bearing is the most common failure point. you can examine it by removing the small cap that sits dead centre on the back. If there is a lot of black dust and the drum shaft is not central then that is the cause.
Depending on age it may have the earlier drum bearing pulleys at the front which were changed back to the old style bearing pads, these can also cause noise.
A bearing repair kit is available. I normally use THIS one.

Thank you very much for the swift response, will get my partner to take it to bits and see if there is bearing **dust** in there. The machine is probably the worst thing I ever bought but needs must :rolls:
Does the kit include both the front and the back one?
With the front drum bearings, is there an easy way of getting into these?
Thanks again

Drum bearing and shaft repacement kit is HERE. You may need THIS as an additional part.
A failure at the front will not cause squeaking, but will make unpleasant grating noises.
Whatever proves to be the problem, it’s a demolition job. Side panels off and drum out for proper access.

Also check the small pulley wheel that the belt runs around. It is mounted on a bracket on the front of the motor, behind the right hand side panel.

A few pounds cheaper to buy the kit I linked to, it includes all of the parts above plus four front bearing pads and all the felt seals that can be replaced as required.

Hi thanks for all this, just managed to get some money to together to renew the bearings. We took it mostly to bits and it grinds when you go past a certain point mainly (put pen on it to see)
When I went to order the kit it says for VTD80 on it, not CTD80 as mine is ….will that make any difference?
Think this one is going to someone else going to buy a new one…

I carry the 1703080 kit, it is listed as being for the vented dryer but it has all the parts needed for the bearing repairs to the condensor dryer as well.
