ParticipantHi – my wife has given me the task of buying a washing machine and a tumble dryer on a budget of £800. The w/m is the priority.
It’s been about 12 years since we bought our current AEG washing machine but it’s gone kaput so the need is urgent. I’ve seen brands that are promoted as good value but I’d prefer to be advised by people like yourselves who really know what they are talking about. Any thoughts?

Hi dwelly
The current range of AEG machines are not the same as the model you currently have, having said that they are better than most. This thread which has been running over the last couple of days has some good info in it.
If the washing machine is going to be used far more than the dryer I would go either for on of the Bosch`s or the ISE AW23 cracking machine backed up with a full five year warranty and service should it ever be needed is carried out by local engineers and all for £529 delivered and installed.
Washing machine and tumble dryer buying guides here and here are well worth reading.
HTH 🙂

Thanks Don. On other threads you’ve given the thumbs up to a Bosch WAE24364GB and a Siemens WM14E162GB. How do they compare or contrast to the ISE AW23?
Also, do you have any preferences for tumble dryer brands/makes?

Hi dwelly
The ISE compares very well to the Bosch Classix range the real differences are a five year warranty and locally sourced after sales service.
The Bosch and Siemens ranges are well known to be god quality in their price ranges. Siemens machines do come with a five year warranty however their prices are generally higher than the Bosch.
White Knight are a good honest machine towards the budget end but cheap parts compared to some make them a good bet, Zanussi and Whirlpool both make good machines. Vented is known to be more reliable, adding a sensor option makes them a good all round bet.
HTH 🙂

Thanks Don. I’ve ordered the ISE AW23 and will decide on tumble dryer later.
Do you know who I can contact to find out about delivery times from ISE? The email confirmation didn’t give me any contact details or tell me anything about possible dates or times and I really need to know.
cheers

I thought Bosch Classix was the non-German built, low budget (read short life) range, and ISE is touted here as the next best thing to Miele?
The Bosch and Siemens ranges are well known to be god quality in their price ranges.
That kind of takes brand worship to the limit 🙂

WAA is probably the range you may be thinking of the tell tale sign is the stub door handle 😉 Classixx, Exxcel and Logixx are the three German led categories.

Well our Clasicxx was made in France and was definately at the budget end of their range when we bought it. Needless to say it is worn out (bearings shot and element gone) which is something I’m specifically trying to avoid with its replacement. Hence the interest in ISE.

Don – do you know how to get hold of one of the directors for ISE? Their distribution company has made a total mess of my order and I’m very close to pulling the plug on the AW23 and going away forever unless I can get hold of a director to do something about the situation in the next 24 hours….not a happy customer right now….

I doubt any Director of any firm would be able to sort something out in 24 hours in ‘Frozen Britain’. Plus its a Friday evening.
I take it they haven’t delivered when they should have?
Alot worst things could happen than not getting a washing machine on time.

Hi dwelly,
I don’t manage ISE day to day but I am a director and, I am aware of this delivery.
What I can gather is that the machine was ordered after the close of business on Monday and the delivery company did call but something went wrong and that they were a bit behind for whatever reason.
They now can’t get to you until Friday 15th.
I can do absolutely nothing until Monday whatsoever as all the distribution centres are closed over the weekend.
Even on Monday, given the weather conditions across the UK and the backlog of orders being created with all distribution companies and couriers I very much doubt that there’s anything that anyone can do about speeding up deliveries at the moment. We have been warned to expect delays as, whilst the main roads may well be clear, most of the roads off the main arteries are causing issues which is where most deliveries actually end up.
This means that loads are reduced since they simply cannot deliver as much due to the additional time required to get through that and the slower traffic.
We have exactly the same issues with service work at the moment for anyone as well as parts distribution. Some companies in certain areas have simply closed down until it thaws as getting about is just not practical for now.
In short, I know it is disappointing and probably very annoying but there’s most probably absolutely nothing that I or anyone else will be able to do about it.
Sorry, not a lot of help I know but I’d rather be honest and, if it’s any consolation, our stock replenishment will not arrive until next Friday or possibly Monday of the following week either, almost a week late, simply due to the weather as certain runs on some routes have just been totally cancelled.

It seems timdowning isn’t very sympathetic to people who actually want to support small independent firms but the reality is I’m not expecting miracles and could have gone to a multinational like most others but chose not to. The reality also is that the distribution company hasn’t fulfilled its side of the purchase process and the w/m is now scheduled to arrive 11 days after ordering. Maybe some of you might think 11 days is OK to wait – personally I don’t.
KWatt – thanks for your message and for being straightforward with me about the problems of distribution. You’ve heard some of the story behind this; you may even have read my emails to your colleague David. He was very courteous and explained the situation with Sprint but ultimately couldn’t do anything either as the stock is all elsewhere.
For me, that’s the most frustrating thing as I had entered into an agreement with ISE in the full expectation that my order would be fulfilled according to your terms of Shipping. I’d still have gone ahead even if the website had said at the outset you were experiencing difficulties with distribution due to the weather but the fact is there was nothing on the website about delays or other problems. I think it was reasonable to expect delivery within a day or two, perhaps even three – but certainly not in 11.. !!! I hope you will be speaking with the directors of the distribution company next week and perhaps putting a note for customers via the website about potential delays. Good luck.

Hi dwelly,
No problem, we’ve had flack on outbound orders and had much grief as inbound haven’t arrived either over the past couple of weeks with holidays and the weather problems, which have been going on since before Christmas. It is causing problems and, the backlogs are also causing ongoing issues as the various couriers just aren’t getting a chance to catch up. It hasn’t been just a acute until this week as the carriers try to clear what they had over the holiday period and battle the conditions they have faced this week.
Given the forecasts we expect more of the same for at least another week or so. But, there’s not a thing we or anyone else can do about that.
I haven’t seen the emails.
I think you should find that the normal delivery lead time is clearly stated on all the machines as two to seven days, it is incredibly rare that a major appliance can be delivered any quicker than about four working days unless there happens to be stock available locally. But that very much depends on when you hit the delivery cycle with the order among other things. We put that information on as a guide as to what normal lead times are for each item and, normally, they’d be correct.
However, this isn’t normal conditions we’re operating under.
We cannot control the weather or how well delivery companies can perform in the conditions. There is also, I would expect, nothing that the delivery companies or their directors can do about it either.
As to putting a note up, I think the assumption was that everyone would realise that there could be potential shipping delays on just about anything given the news headlines.
I’m really sorry you’re not happy with the situation but there’s really very little, if anything, that anyone can do about it as things stand. If we could get machines into a local agent we would but even that has proved to be not possible. This is as most trade deliveries have been adversely affected this week (and will be next) with certain areas that the various carriers just point blank refuse to go to and all SLA’s are null and void under these sorts of circumstances. So, we can’t even beat the carriers up on their SLA’s as their contracts all state something along the lines of “weather permitting”.
This is only set to get still worse as most regions across the UK are now not going to treat anything bar main routes other than ploughing them.
K.
