ParticipantHi
I have a Whirlpool ADG 7440 (8542 440 15810) about 7-8 years old which has started to do the following
On any selected cycle1: runs the drain pump for 30-60 seconds, then pump stops (any water in sump is pumped out)
2: starts to beep continuouslyOn opening the door the rinse cycle light is on
The warning light is flashing continuouslyI previously had what appeared to be a problem with pump out
but this disappeared after letting the machine sit for a couple of weeksAlso it is possible that the power cut off to the machine during a cycle
I have seen similar issues on this forum but for different model numbers, apologies if I am repeating
What is the cause ? And how do I fix it ?
How do I gain access for any part replacement that might be required ?Thanks in advance
Peter

Continuous flashing is the temperature sensor failure. This is the probe sticking up through the floor of the sump, next to the Water Indicator which you changed.
It’s HERE if you wish to proceed with the repair. Be very careful – do not get any part of it wet whilst changing it.
Power off, of course.

Thanks for the reply
I actually did not change the water indicator, as the problem disappeared after letting the machine sit unused for about 3 months.I spoke to a local Whirlpool repair guy who suggested it may have gotten stuck mid cyle and leaving it sit let it “relax” out. Sounded a bit off but machine did start working fine again for about a month. Now I have this new problem…
Should I now change both ?
Am slow to work on it as it is built in tight into kitchen unit.January 7, 2010 at 12:23 am #307888Penguin45

You might get away with giving the Water Indicator a good scrub out with very hot water and and old toothbrush – you can usually see the coagulated fatty deposits through the black grid.
The NTC or temperature device there’s no way round. They are particularly touchy beasts and either work or don’t – no half measures I’m afraid.
