It’s a Servis under the skin; so not the best machine out there….. Servis went bust as did MFI, the sole supplier of Diplomat machines. It would probably be repairable, although the above points should be borne in mind before you do.
Integrated machines are expensive to start with, so if buying new, buy the best you can afford – it’ll be worth it in the long run. Having an unreliable cheap machine means dismantling the kitchen every time there is a fault. Bosch / Neff / Siemens machines are probably the best for a reasonable price and they have good warranties.HTH,
Steve.

Thanks for the feedback. Looking around it seems we are facing £400+ to replace it 🙁 Not sure if the parts are available if we wanted to go for a repair as we have phoned several local firms who won’t even look at it.

Bearing kit is HERE and hardly expensive.
However, if the drum shaft is damaged, you will need 720090100 drum and shaft at a cost of £80+, plus the VAT.

Great thanks. Is there any way I could check if the shaft is broken myself or would I need an engineer to look at it?

Hmmm… now I’m not sure it IS the bearings! I spoke to a firm I found using the links here and they said bearings normally come on gradually (this noise started suddenly) and by turning the drum manually you should still hear the noise (but when I do this nothing). So I tried running it again and noticed the noise isn’t there all the time – only when it’s on the drain cycle. So I’m now thinking it’s the draining pump – possible? If so is this easy to replace/fix myself?

The drain pump is also nice and cheap, you can use this one which is very cheap.
If the pump is noisy (common with magnetic pumps) then you should hear it only when it is draining.
The other possibility is something stuck in between the drum and the tank.

Thanks for all the help and advice. Drain pump on order so hopefully it will be a lot cheaper than I had feared to get washing again!

Makes me think the guy I first called out to look at the machine (and who charged me £38 to tell me the drum and support strut needed replacing at a total cost of £250) must have forgotten his stetson and parked his horse around the corner somewhere…..

Just to post a final outcome update – the pump arrived, I fitted it and the machine is now in perfect working order again! Turned out the propeller fan inside the original pump had fallen off and was rattling around inside the case.
So a big thank you to all here for their help and advice that has saved me at least £250 had I gone for the first guys repair estimate (and I’d still have had the same problem after that!). Worrying that someone who carries a big advert in the yellow pages as an experienced engineer can get it so wrong.
